Oh, and also because "Root-san" is a creature she perceives as a monster with whom she can not effectively communicate or reason with, and whose motives are likewise inscrutable. Without being certain of Root-san's intentions, she can't effectively make the determination of whether the encounter would conform to her definitions of successful or enjoyable.

Which matters to her because she's not immortal.

We'll ease her into fun stuff later.
