Personally I get the feeling that they're all young adults, and Twilight Sparkle was a student at some sort of magic university. I mean, they're all living on their own and seem to have jobs and such, well, except for Applejack, but that's a family farm and thus family business.

I guess I should clarify the subject of unicorns and wishing, since a lot of people do not understand it.

Unicorns can not simply wish for things and have them come true. Well, they might in the new one I don't even know. Unicorn magic is very ill-defined so far there.

Pony Adventures uses Gen 1 rules for magic. This essentially means that all unicorns can do two things. They can wink, and they are able to use one additional magic power appropriate to the unicorn. Gusty, for example, can create gusts of wind. Fizzy can create and manipulate bubbles. Galaxy can generate light and heat.

Strawberry Fluff's special power is the ability to create pink marshmallows from nothing. It is not a fantastic ability, but it can still be useful for several purposes if used creatively.

Winking (also sometimes referred to as 'disappearing') is essentially teleportation, but it has a number of limitations that other methods of teleportation do not have. For one, a pony can only wink to somewhere that they can see. Additionally, winking has a fairly strict distance limit (which varies from pony to pony). Furthermore, winking requires a certain amount of concentration and focus in order to work properly, and if done improperly can lead to consequences like 'not having all of you reappear.' This amount also seems to vary from pony to pony (Galaxy can wink nearly instantly, but Twilight requires a few seconds to 'build up' to winking). The final restriction to winking is that it does not allow a pony to move THROUGH anything that they could not walk through. While a pony could wink over a ditch, they could not wink past a tall fence. Usually, if a pony is restrained, it will also prevent them from being able to wink.

The 'I Wish ... I wish ... I wish ...' is not indicative of any power for Strawberry Fluff to simply make wishes and have them come true. It is her method of concentrating on her winking, since she is 'not very good' at it; and a reference to the Gen 1 My Little Pony pilot episode.
