I'm thinking about running a quest. Any Ideas?

Write about what you know.

1) Think about whether you'd enjoy something serious vs offbeat, fantasy vs sci fi, sergals vs furries, etc.
2) Think about what you enjoy drawing. You'll have to draw your protagonist and their stuff dozens and dozens of times.
3) Confusing things aren't automatically interesting.
4) After you decide what to do, don't start for a few days. If you lose interest in that time, you'd have never maintained it through the quest in the first place.

Hmm, good points

So, what kind of stuff DO you enjoy?

Also, post a quick doodle here.

Uhh... this wasn't really a quick doodle, its just the only thing I have access to at the moment. Takes around 15mins or so to do properly. Im not really much of an artist but I can try.

I have a variety of interests. The ones I could say I lake the most would be, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Civilization and strategy.

I guess scanned images might work. Consider investing in a tablet, however.

Also, 1700x2338 is enormous.

15 mins for an image isn't bad, but in practice it'll probably be more than that, with multiple figures interacting. You should practice that, with a timer.

I wouldn't mind a tablet, but I don't have any cash so that will have to come later.
I can pull off some mouse drawings and sprites, but sprites take much longer and I would have to prepare before hand. Mouse drawings... around 5-10 mins per set.
(Sorry about the size.

I try to practice as much as possible and I do time myself, its really exquisite stuff that keeps me tied up, like an awesome background or fight sequence.

Apart from the art, have you already thought about the perspective of your quest?

In my opinion, it is a noticable difference if a quest goes

>"You're Mudy's conscience, please suggest an action"
'Mudy hug Raital'

or if it goes

>"Muschio talks to the Orb of infinite Psyche" 'You should hug her already, Boss!'

Thank you for your enlightening comments.

As for perspective, im not sure. I was thinking that the character has been thrust into a pressuring situation that has caused them to become mildly schizophrenic, but while effective it seems to be a bit cliche.
If I use that method I wold allow character-participant interaction without the character doing everything they say blindly, but I am afraid that people would get stuck on the dislike of this and simply not play.
>>

The dislike of what? Quest characters ignore suggestions all the time.

You don't really need an excuse for the user interface, in my experience.
>>
No. 7416 ID: e6bf37

I was speaking to the use of cliche. There are some who would not enjoy the story just because of the interface.

You can never satisfy everybody, that's just how it works.
And as >>317214 already said: Quest characters ignore suggestions all the time.
Especially if these certain suggestions consist solely of "RAPE! RAPE! BUTTERFACE!". Do not fret, as they simply display the more demented parts of the great orb. Which doesn't mean that they aren't good for a laugh sometimes. Just don't overdo it.

I recommend looking into Mudy Quest in that regard, as there were ignored a great many of these, and yet the cases of people screaming "CHOO CHOO! GET ON THE RAILROAD TRAIN!" were scarce.

In the end, it's up to you. Choose the way you want you want to go. No matter what, you will get people who will dislike your way. But as long as you keep it up determined, you'll also eventually get people who will like it. Everybody has his taste and the like, no?
I, for example like that cliche of a slightly schizophreniac character. Can't get enough of that.

That's an awfully open-ended question!

...maybe something with Sergals? Another Exalted quest?

Ooh! Maybe an episodic quest about an exploration group, like Star Trek or Stargate? Maybe like Stargate with magic! Adventurers who go through the magic artifact portal to new worlds! Maybe with some spelljammer tossed in.

Before I run the big idea, im going to try my hand at some others I had. Look out for it, in the next few days.

So. Im observing some things with quests now and ive come to some conclusions.

1) People like quests where they get in the action immediately, not ones that start with normal stuff and build up.

Am I right?

Some people can make even the most mundane things exciting. It really depends on how you present it.
>>
No. 8217 ID: af3e6d

>>318000
This is just my opinion, but it's just easier to get into a quest that starts in media res with a clear goal. Really, the only difference is how easy it is to get into it. Whether it works or not depends on the author and the tastes of the quester.

Paella is a dish traditionally full of saffron, the most expensive spice by weight. If you make something full of obscenely expensive spices and it isn't already exciting, you may want to rethink your cooking.
