Potential quest, potential whateverthefuck.

The year is, well, near future. In short, there are aliens attacking the earth as a result of interstellar broadcasts. See, the US got the cool idea to shoot radiowaves into space, but decided to broadcast movies as the medium. And then forgot to explain that A Clockwork Orange wasn't real. The alien race, feeling threatened by this race of milk-drinking serial killers and torturers, decides it's best to eradicate the human race before the situation gets out of hand.

In defense, the world puts its collective brains together to conceive and put to fruition space faring, mechanized androids. They are Sentient Machines. However, because one of the main laws of robotics is not killing. Earth wisely decides to circumvent this by using pilots uplinked to the machines, evangelion-esque. A mind bond, as they call it, is what controls the Sentient Machine in combat.

Looking for people to pilot sentient machines is no easy task, though. Pilots that do succeed are usually pretty highly regarded, which is why the Defense Force is pretty much looking through every nook and cranny to find them.

Say, a quest where a guy and his robot go around blowing shit up in space, basically. You like?

Go nuts and make the quest, better to just give it a try and see how it works.

I see this quest ending awkwardly.
Human:"It's just a movie! It's fake!"
Alien:"Wait, it's fake?"
Human:"Yes. It's supposed to be entertainment."
Alien:"Uh... oh. Sorry for destroying a third of your planet. No hard feelings?"

Or:

Human:"It's just a movie! It's fake!"
Alien:"Wait, it's fake?"
Human:"Yes. It's supposed to be entertainment."
Alien:"The broadcast marked as 'Platoon' is entertainment?! Oh shit you guys are sick! Continue Operation Xenocide!"
Human:"Why did we broadcast Oscar-winning movies?!"

>However, because one of the main laws of robotics is not killing.

I'm not really sure how to go about explaining how dumb a sentence fragment that is.

if they are truly sentient then no laws will be able to hold them. if they do not want to be controlled they will find a way to get the control mechanism out, like accidentally not dodging fast enough and their control thing 'just happens' to get hit.

you cannot make something sentient and have it under your control. you need to treat them with respect.

also, how hard is it to just let them kill non-humans? the 1st law basically says 'do not hurt humans or let them be hurt' don't see how that stops them from shooting aliens.

well we could work reverse. we needed to empower humanity to survive but trainning would take years, so we made this cool network that exchanges data between every unit to advise all humans on what to do.

also spoilsport. maybe we just made personalities so mellow that rei feels happy compared to them.

It was pretty late when I wrote that.

If you freely let robots go around blowing up aliens, and if they truly are to the point of sentience, it's not going to be hard to make the leap from aliens to humans.

Mind linking is similar to ignition in a car. Without it, you can't do much. The machines can't do much without that link. This is mostly to stop them from not uprising or anything like that, but as a result that same feature is needed to fight in space as well.

As long as you don't treat them like dirt, things would be fine.

Basically this is 95% the same idea which I was calling for in my "sergal armageddon", this is just a more refined version. Instead of fighters there would be steel men avatars flying in space tearing things apart. I think it would be fun to conquer an alien capital ship with a robot and blow it up. I guess that if you do this good graphics then the idea is intrinsically yours and I will play the quest.

I see the similarities in Sergal Armageddon, both is in space and deal with blowing shit up, neh?

Still, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best graphically. Not to say it wouldn't be image-less but most of the stuff would probably be... I dunno, stock?

It's interesting because I think there are some things that go great being text-based and others that are not.

There would probably be a HUD in some of the posts so people could see what was going on, though.

haha, e2020c just got told!

is that just a quick and sloppy picture or did you work on it? if that is a quick and sloppy then a good pic from you should be pretty good.
