I was catching up on Shoujen the other day, and spotted a few resemblances between Cecil's situation and that of the main character in one of Orson Scott Card's books, Treason.

Have any of you guys spotted some sort of resemblance between quests and quest characters and stuff in books and movies?

A quick read through of said story shows that Cecil and this Lanik Mueller do have a bit in common. I've yet to read the story but now it has caught my interests.

And yes some quests do owe their their roots to other things. The Game was based off o The Cube, and Shoujen actually got it's basic concepts from the manga Kashimashi and Pretty Face.

And for some odd reason whenever I read Ruby Quest I also think of that one movie The island. And for some reason I always picture Ridder in the tale of Don Quixote.

>Kashimashi, Pretty Face
And thus it makes a lot more sense.

Makes Ridder's whole spiral downwards to madness and debauchery all that more interesting, eh?

I thought Ruby Quest was very similar to Bioshock.

That being said, though, the idea of gender bending is far older than Kashimashi. Maybe even before Joan of Arc or Mulan.

The way Farmer keeps babbling, I think Dungeon Game should be renamed to Metroidvania Quest

A dark wizard with almost-godlike power that is challenged by a powerful wizard who fails, and later, his son, who also fails at first, possibly causing his mind to be corrupted? Sages who mastered different forms of magic?
