Not thorny. Seems like each piece is basically cylindrical... and somewhat polished. Still unclimbable, though.

ahh My mistake, the grooves looked like some kind of impediment to climbing from an angle, you must remember that our perception of the world is... rather malleable and open to interpretation to say the least.

Anyhow, as long as the architecture doesn't look immediately dangerous or questionable let us sally forth! Though I wonder why such a huge hall would be needed in a tomb/prison.

Well, its what we call a scavenger hunt. Go in, pick up whatever other people may have left behind, leave. Hopefully, it'll net enough silver to at least buy some rope.

Maybe they thought anything that could escape cramped quarters could be detained at a large room?

Nah. Byron probably was overcompensating when he ordered this.

Luring is good. And actually, I'm less worried about trampling the shrooms than just with going down there. This is their territory, if they are ambushing from here, they have a reason.

The mushrooms were supposed to be able to pierce the darkness a bit, but that was something I had to ditch because Illust isn' as malleable as Photoshop when comes to blending modes

Allright..
Its just... when you do something big, some big milestone you just feel this feeling, like a gift from the kitties, like surge... and you know. You just feel like you can do bigger, harder, better.

oh yeah, about that,

Bad news ants come in nests of a few hundred individuals, they are also consummate diggers and have little self-preservation.

Good news, they live mostly on instinct and navigate primarily on scent trails laid down by previous members. Fire and smoke would confuse their senses, the queen and eggs are likely hidden somewhere in these passages and killing them would put an end to this nest as the workers will die within a month or so.

Of course these are 'deamon' ants so for all I know the can spit fire and shit grenades so good luck.

Press on, then. You can come back here later, once you feel more confident and have climbing gear to reach the mushrooms and the other ants.

Do you know how many, er...Blows you can take? We can see when you get hurt, when you heal and when you return to full health. We see this as your "hit points".

We can also see that you have something called ADP and that killing demons, or creatures like the ants, appears to restore some AD to you. In this case, your ADP were at full already, though. I'd guess the P stands for "points", like with Hit Points. No idea what AD stands for.

And we do understand the concept of leveling, but probably in a subtly different way from what you are used to. We're not familiar with your leveling "system" so to say.

Not many of the people we helped were actually rulers if you really want to know. I mean, our creator/we were, kinda, but that's well... confusing and that particular thread of of fate hasn't seen the hand of all the Norns/Fates yet.

Anyhow, he/we would have stuffed this place so full of traps n' shit that you wouldn't have made it past the Grand Hall of Pillars without finding out we had added bladed spinners that work their way up and down those grooves.

And that would have been well before they died. Most of our wielders have a tendency not to leave much behind anyway because they either learn to live out a nice "normal" life, or they become a grease stain on the floor, or they go utterly mad and bugger off, or they just conveniently happen to be immortal, or ascend to deification, or become food/playthings for dark elder entities at the end of time... hell oftentimes they chose more than one!

>Where, seeing stuff.

On your interface. You don't know what an interface is, right? It's like a picture, that we see for a variable distance around you. The words I mentioned just appeared as letters on it...I guess the orb is reading your status, somehow. If you have no idea what ADP is, then we'll just have to figure this one out as we go.

>Overprized backpack.

Law of supply and demand, I'm guessing. In a place where you need to climb up and down a lot, a backpack is gonna be helluva useful. I bet many adventurers acquire one, making the backpacks Manual have worth a lot to adventurers like you. Or perhaps it's something else, but that's my theory.

>Rulers build other places, old tombs.

Well...Yes, but not always ones we've overseen. Once upon a time, for example, on a world very unlike your own, there existed seven wonders, constructed by various ancient-time peoples. With the passing of time, they all disappeared, save one. It was a tomb created for the ruler of a spiritual kingdom, who was considered a god by his people.

It was known as the pyramid of Giza and was built in less than twenty years from the ground and up, out of more than 2.3 million sandstone blocks weighing from 23 to 80 tonnes each, that had to be transported for 500 miles from their quarries and perfectly fitted to create a sparkling, magnificent whole. Then the whole thing was covered in white marble, with a gold triangle covering the top.

It the tallest man-made building on that world ever made for thousands of years...And the largest one of many in that country. There were at least a hundred and thirty-pluss other pyramids and countless old tombs, mostly for royalty and nobles.

If nothing else, the ancients of that kingdom were very, very dedicated.

Not much of a treasure crawl, though. That particular kingdom relied on written curses, hidden doors and niches and societal bonds to do its tomb-protectin', and in the long run that just wasn't very effective.

((Forgive the sidetrack, I am vacationing in Egypt at the moment.))

>Thing on the ledge.

It's solid and made of metal, right? Could be a relic of some kind, or just...An oddity. So the object might be of interest to Miss K or the Father. You can describe it to them when you return, if you think it worthwhile. It's probably been bypassed by what must have been scores of crawlers so far, though, indicating a dearth of worth or removal possibilities. Or possibly just a dearth of attention on their part. Heh. Guess it might actually be a good thing that you've got us here.

Anyway, I've got a few questions for you, if you don't mind. What're summons like, in your world? And what types of adventurers are there? You're a fighter-type, and from Father MacLaughing's comments earlier, I can guess you have clerics with god-granted powers. And then there's the summons, which I guess you have magicians for, right? That all the generic types?

Also, who is Lord Byron, and why DID he build this place? I seem to recall you thinking it was originally built as a prison, earlier, before "and then, demons". But...It seems pretty big for a place to store prisoners so far.

Finally...How far can you drop without hurting yourself? From what I can see, that last jump of yours is pretty impressive.

Oh! Another thought occurs. Perhaps it would've been wise to inform someone of that soldier's predicament. Before something like, oh, say, a demon ant comes along and chews on his gibblets. Well, they're unlikely to do so just yet if they shun light, but still...If he's still there when you return, you REALLY should think about doing something. Someone else might discover him as well, and notice that someone (i.e. you) has taken his halberd.

I have no idea why he's trying to be so 'grand' here. I only guess he had too much leftover tax money, or wanted to be remembered forever... I dont know. I'm no construction engineer. And I've learned to never try to understand noble logic.
I know Byron was making it to jail political troublemakers, like the opposition; he has alot of those. Maybe the size is just to make it impressive. Maybe my info was wrong.

Say, whats the difference between science and -- ahemn -- SCIENCE!?

>summons
Well, as far as my knowledge goes, summons are monsters that are created on the spot to fight and die. Thing is, they're always these crazy creatures, like... Idunno. Undead minions are great summons, even if walking skeletons do exist. There are the moblins. And I've fought before some very low-quality summoned golems and drakes.
The thing is, summons are never really smart, and tend to be crazy, so you obviously know its a summon. The rich and powerful uses summons as automatic defense and meat to grind in large battles, even if usually a hundred soldiers can slice trough a thousand summons with ease.
Usually for a summon exist you need to put something innit, often a silver bit. So, summons can be a source of money, but ain't worth the trouble.

Two doors. The plot thickens.

Science is the boring stuff like doing polymaths and spending long hours figuring seas of equations and fruitless experenmet after fruitless experement to gain a minor improvement through understanding in people's lives and equipment.

SCIENCE!!! is the maddened hybrid between this and the arcane, the psychotropic genius required to go from zero to giant iron spider tower with a weaponized fresnel sun lens using only hard work, loyal minions, and a flexible work schedule all being harnessed by a unsurpassed intelligence.

Also, try the left hand door, most dungeon designers are right handed so they put all their most creative traps on that side, left hand is more likely to be the less interesting, if more useful service passage.

DODGE the incoming fist, Player!

So that's a summon, eh?

Looks like THIS particular one's gone a bit corrupt. Interface shows us no name for it, just a bunch of data gibberish. Hmm. Which is interesting. Things are pointing more and more towards technology being very strongly present in your world. I've had that suspicion since seeing the depictions of the angels from the sky.

There's a saying. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." In your case it might not just be technology, but the very fabric of your reality that's just aligned in a way I find that reminds me of what I know as technology, though. So I'm really just speculating. The nature of your world is still a mystery.

But it's a mystery I find interesting. I also wonder what's made this summon so...Strange. Perhaps it has something to do with why the
demons are retreating.

I think so. Something about you seeing it as gibberish, and system errors, kung fu, and about the angels right? And something about technology and magic.

Well, to tell you the truth I didn' even knew summons had genders. They always show up with gear and arms, and that's how things work. Like in Lord Trev's castle, back at my hometown -- it was full of these guards, all summoned. Hey, just because I never delved into a real dungeon, doesn' means I never did my homework.

>How do you know it's really dead?
Asides from the whole stop moving thing, there are two basic things about summons.

First, they have those big, empty pupil-less eyes, not unlike some types of demons. Some mages believe summons are actually demons in some degree because of that, mind you.

>less travelled, more loot

Its their anchor. Summons need something of value, even if low value, to 'keep' them here. Theorically, stronger summons need more value.

I afraid that being a bit fatalistic makes me disinclined to believe that things happen just because we say they are a probability.

You are forgetting that we have seen the future/past. So we are used to occasionally helping things happen that we already knew had to happen.

Or Creator/Boss/Us for instance, we knew he was responsible for a city burning down before he did it. The trick was we didn't even know how exactly it burned down, and such details are important (it was a total accident by the way, he just wanted people to think he was that competent.)

>Electricity, like the spells.

Wait a tick. Do you mean that spells use electricity, or that some spells conjure it?

Anyway, whatever you do, don't touch the red glass or the wires. And don't get too close. Electricity has a tendency to arc between surfaces, metal in particular...And you have quite a bit of metal on you. Unless you get an insulated ten-foot pole, or a spell or something protecting you from electricity, I wouldn't suggest you mess around with this thing lest you get zapped.

The blood spatter pattern is the really queer thing here. It looks to have come from the side with the door and the shaft, and not from the side with the lightning. And some of it is far up on the wall.

Maybe she got killed by the grue-thing, or some sort of monster and that's what gnawed on her bones? At the same time, she's lying right under the shaft, so maybe she just fell down it, and the gnawing happened later. Broken bones could be an indication of that. Although that doesn't explain the blood spatter up on the wall.

Hmm. Beyond the body and the red glass and lightning thing, there doesn't appear to be much of interest here. Although the wall behind the lightning, that the wire is leading into, is shaped a bit differently than the rest.

And the bolts in the wooden support above you look like eyes, but so have some of the others you've passed so far.

That said, there's no guarantee that up isn't the way to go either, as both ways lead further into the mountain. Pfff...Maybe we should start keeping a map. Anyone good with 3D layering?

Two summons, one with a whip, on the floor above you, interrogating what appears to be empty racks. The other appears to have a shield, I think, and is watching. It's definitely a torture room.

Something big appears to be just a bit further in...Can only see one of its eyes, but it appears at least three times as large as you, assuming if it's standing on the ground floor. Exit is upwards and to the left and down...Perhaps leading to the lightning room. The big thing doesn't appear to be looking in your direction yet, facing the wall on the far side.

You could attack the summons going up the stairs, or you could head for the big thing. Your torch will probably make you lose surprise advantage either way, unless you hurry.

Also, score, you've found some chain! That might come in handy.

So yeah.

And how am I supposed to pull that off, big reaper? The guy's taller than me, and he's wielding a shield and some kind of 'gauche -- that's a broadbladed defensive dagger, for the lot who doesn' knows. His stance is a little weird, but I'm sure he's just trying to lure me in.

>>

Well that's not very good. From what I can see of the shield it looks like some kind of pointed buckler. By the stand I would say he's liable to either smash you with the shield or stab you if you try to attack, or possibly use the shield for a disarm. We don't really know if he's lefthanded or righthanded. The guy may even be ambidextrous. Well the damn thing looks competent enough that torso and head strikes probably won't work. Try as much as you can to not hit the shield, that could allow him to set you up for a very bad riposte. Try aiming for his weaponhands fingers as well as his legs, if you can cut the artery on the inside of his thigh you should be able to wear him down. If you could get around him if would also be useful to hamstring him or throw something in his eyes, but that's not something I should have to point out. Or do you hold to some kind of noble code that doesn't allow you to fight dirty? Just be careful as many enemies are very dangerous when they're about to die, they usually try for one last strike.

That's about it for my suggestions atm.

You lost an HP from that whip, Player. I'm not sure if eating an apple will restore that, but feel free to munch it down anyway. You've been in three fights so far, and it's important to keep one's energy up.

To anyone with weak sight, they weren't really interrogating anyone. There's some kind of pillar stuck to the one rack they have there, that the maid-summon was whipping and asking to "talk". I guess...It was in the way or something, and they took it in for interrogation due to some old order or something. Fits in with how stupid summons usually are, so that's my theory.

As to why one of them was dressed as a maid...Beats me. Maybe Lord Byron has specific tastes.

Anyway, loot their bodies, and check what's the deal with that cupboard, and if there's anything/anyone in the iron maiden on top near the stairs. Might want to make room in your inventory for that chain, since it's the closest thing to rope we've found so far.

That said...How do your pockets work, Player? You can stuff a halberd into 'em, so I'm going to go on a limb and assume a chain isn't a problem, as long as you get rid of something else. Like the apple. The logistics of that makes absolutely no sense when you think about it, but we're aware of precedents elsewhere, so I'm checking.

It's called a cute jelly, according to Player. I also question the usefulness of teaching it to become dependant on Player for food. What would it be good for?

Well, the stew healed you some. But if you're not hungry, let's leave it at that. I'm just thinking that you might have to toss it away to pick up something else, and in that case it couldn't hurt to just eat it.

Anyway, on with the looting. The soldier's halberd is upstairs, along with whatever silver that maid dropped and the stuff in the cupboard. There's also the iron maiden above you, and a bunch of skeletons in what appears to be a trash heap to your left, where a tunnel goes down. That's where the big monster disappeared down, too.

The name Byron is often associated with the dark, yet noble, madman. Notable primarily for these traits:

* a strong sense of arrogance
* high level of intelligence and perception
* cunning and able to adapt
* suffering from an unnamed crime
* a troubled past
* sophisticated and educated
* self-critical and introspective
* mysterious, magnetic and charismatic
* struggling with integrity
* power of seduction and sexual attraction
* social and sexual dominance
* emotional conflicts, bipolar tendencies, or moodiness
* a distaste for social institutions and norms
* being an exile, an outcast, or an outlaw
* "dark" attributes not normally associated with a hero
* disrespect of rank and privilege
* has seen the world
* jaded, world-weary
* cynicism
* self-destructive behavior
* a good heart in the end

From what I can gather of the fellow, he seems to have many of these traits... well presumable lacking the rather important final trait.

Ironically we may almost feel more comfortable in his hands than in yours... our primary master (of which we are mere fragments) had a vast majority of these traits, perhaps even more than this Lord Byron.

I advocate getting straight back. I'm still half-worried about that sleeping guard, and there's no more room in Player's pockets anyway. All we could pick up is silver bits. Unless we...Hmm.

Player, you could leave the holy water stashed in that oil sconce on the wall and go fetch the chain...It's bound to be worth more than the flask...That fifty foot chain was worth fifty silver, and I'm guessing this one's, oh, ten feet or more? Which even at half price gives you five silvers. You'll come back here later anyway, and if the bottle's gone you could buy a spare while in town, too.

As is, the silver+credits might barely be enough for a bag, but you've already paid for a room for the evening, so we're at least covered until tomorrow. The marbled metal bit might be worth something too, to either Miss K or Father MacLaughing. Probably Father MacLaughing. Or it might just be trash, who knows.

I'm also worried using another person's credit won't put us in good light with Manuel. Perhaps it'd just be better to return them to him and say the recipient of them is no longer able to pay back on his loan, so he can put the grappling hook up for sale if he wants. Should help convince him you're not just another gold-digger...And give you a nifty potential tool to buy.

Also, you might want to have a bath, but perhaps that's just me.

The other voice might be right. That thing from earlier went left and down, where your return path is.

Perhaps this is the creature that dug its way into the torture room, the prison cell and has some kind of earth waste heap in the mudslide tunnel?

An interesting observation is at least that the tunnels into the torture room, the prisoner room and the slippery mudslope tunnel all look like they have been dug by something of roughly equal size.

With regards to the eyes, what the others said.

And...In retrospect it looks like your sense of adventure might've saved you some trouble, after all. The big thing looks to have been waiting (or sleeping?), with its eyes closed, in the darkness right by the doorways. You would've walked STRAIGHT into it had you taken the stairs to get here.

Now, remember to check up on the soldier, return the halberd, close doors behind you on the way out, take a bath when you get back, wash your clothes...Hah. I must be starting to sound like your mother. Apologies.

You can't become a hero if you're dead.
Remember the heroes of olden days? Did they save everyone and everything? Hell no.
What they did was survive. Possibly while taking the most enemies with them.
Did Achilles save Iphigenia when they needed to sacrifice her to survive the ocean trip to Troy? Hell no! He was a hero, not a fool.
Yes, being a hero means sometimes being an asshole, but that can't be helped.

Also, if we're gonna save one of these demons, we won't have the ability to carry the guard dude to safety. Choose, Player. To save a fellow human who, if somewhat lazy, worked to ensure the safety of the villagers, or some demon of unknown morals and goals? Choose.

The guard could be helpful; and this act of mercy could gain us more trust with the villagers. Remember, this guy is someone's friend, or son, or brother...

okay... yeah.. you are sadly probably right... It would just be a pity to run off and discover later that we could have gotten some answers if we had taken a moment to check vitals.

However I agree that Player's own vitals are probably more important at this time... also.

Also, PLATER if you still have that HOLY WATER... now would be the time to use it... attack the PORTAL/WORMHOLE DIRECTLY!

We may have a chance to disrupt the portal and slice the monstrosity in half (no that I really expect that to 'kill it" but it certainly can't help it!)

His life or that of the guards is no more preacious than anything else.

Odin may have been a god, but he still died pretty easily. Everyone starts out somewhere, it's not like we haven't made another ascend to godhood in the past. We may be able to do so again in the future.

As for the possible death or life of those possible girls. I wanna find out what happened. To find out that I think we need atleast one of their bodies.

I think I'm gonna stop arguing about this now. I don't think I can convince you and I'm very sure that you can't convince me and the enjoyment value is going away for me.

Player appears to have, for better or worse, decided to stay and try to stop the wormhole. It might not even be the end of him if he fails, as he can flee further into the dungeon.

They slaves could already be dead, indeed...But they were the source of this thing, and chances are, if we are to stop it, it has something to do with their collars, the box or the middle slave.

The holy water was left behind to pick up the chain, who was of more net worth. We can try to retreat back that way and fetch it, should we fail to contain the portal.

Not mine. Most of my suggestions revolve around solving problems through violence or trickery, preferably a mix of the two.

Well Player, it seems like it's time to show up your jumping prowess. Giant spiders are best killed either through going under them and stabbing upwards or by jumping onto their backs and then stab downwards until you hit something vital. I'm of course suggesting that you get onto the beasts back and start with the stabbing.
>>

Well, Player, when will you start listening to completely reasonable suggestions? Forget the loot, forget the prospect of red tits, and RUUUUUUUUUUUUN.

...

...If you still prefer listening to the more... ahem... instinct-based voices, fine. We actually don't know what's the anatomy of this spider-like monster. But in any case... I suggest climbing on the mud slide, then jumping on the back of its head. And STABITSTABITSTABITSTABITSTABITSTABITSTABIT

Seems a mighty odd way to make use of a wormhole by tearing it apart and making it go critical. I wonder what effect that'll have. Nothing good, probably.

>>107775

I suggested it. He had no foreseeable need for the holy water at the time, and the chain had more net worth. To make the excursion into this dungeon more profitable, I suggested he leave it behind. If you feel you could have adequately predicted this event, feel free to complain.

That said...Player? Try not to get yourself killed by doing something stupid, like running into grue-land or tackling a monster ten times your size and weight. I'm hazarding a guess on that this isn't a usual level three encounter.

If it's intelligent, I recommend some variation of "parlay" or "Ididn'tdonuffin'Iswear". If it's not, or not willing to reason, try to maneuver so you have the support pillar between you and it. Should buy you some moments, and if it's stupid enough to rip at it...Well, we'll deal with that if we get there.

If you have to fight those two I would advise on killing the blue spider demon first. That or cut off those blue things on the giant spider, my guess is that he controls it through them.

Other than that it might be a good idea to try to make it back to the holy water, you might also run into the other monster along the way. That blue thing on top might be a hologram, a "magic" illusion so to say. The blue demon is probably guiding and controlling the larger one from somewhere else.

Make chit-chat to distract the spider demon. Try asking puzzling questions, while moving behind the support pillar.

-Are they Charlotte and Charlotte's mother?
-Stahlvern and company was going to take them to the guard fort and get them outside?
-If these guys are such screw-ups, why is she blaming you, and not trying to find them instead?

And now, Speculation 101:

Have a look at the evidence. Review the pictures.

That robed demon did nothing except be outraged, then laugh and run off as he realized what was happening. He was still sputtering in abject rage as the hazmat protocol started up, which probably had something to do with the middle slave. The demons must have had some plan going on, and were going to release this spider demon on the up-above world.

Maybe she was a prisoner of her own size here, further down below in the demon-areas. Maybe she can't leave the dungeon proper by herself. I hope it's the latter.

So the middle slave panicked and started the process to summon Charlotte...Hence why Player is getting the 'blame'. I also believe this method to not normally be accessible by demons, which is why the wormhole privilege got revoked afterwards. They might have found some ancient relic and used that, in conjunction with the slaves.

So. Charlotte, and her mother, stuck further down in the dungeon, was trying to get out, and had the agents and tools to do it. The sleeping guard may have been hexed or drugged to prevent him from warning anyone that they were coming.

Does this make sense to anyone?

What a polite demon. But it doesn't seem like the kind of demon that would be willing to make a deal and we don't really have anything to offer them. Damn I really wish we had a dagger.

I don't think fleeing towards the town will work. That thing could probably catch up to us and this thing seems to have been planned to take out the town so the spider demon should know how to get past the defenses. I say we move closer to the blue one and look for an oppurtunity to strike. If we can cut her head of or atleast stab her through the eyes we only have one enemy left, which happens to be a giant demonic spider. But we can deal with that when we have to.
>>
No. 108717 ID: 8efcef

Well, if blue Charlotte is real and solid, then I don't know. Must be tied to the technology and blue gem-like things tied around her 'mother', then...So I think, if we do have to strike against them, that you should target the straps as a priority. That and the many legs of her 'mother'.

If a fight starts try to dodge beneath the giant spideress. Have the halberd or the sword raised high so that if she tries to squish you with her weight she'll impale herself. While you're below her, you can also cut at the straps.

Alright, combat possibilities explained, we need a theology lesson bad here. What do you know about demons, Player?

Further distracting-doom questions.

Very little, mostly just what you know from a campfire tale or history books. They used to rule the world in the Dark Age, made everyone slaves. They're ageless, but not immortal. Highly magical. They do have their own god duality, the 'Johns'. I think the whole soul selling is bull, but they Do like slaves -- see Dark Age. Theory: Demons are using blood/souls to power dark age/pre-dark age devices and "sorceries". That would explain a lot, actually, such as their need for slaves.

>Charm and romance the demonic spider(s).

Some female spiders have a disturbing tendency to eat small males after coupling...Hang on.

>Mark on her back.

...Fuck me. She's a demon-ified BLACK WIDOW SPIDER, of course! I'm a disgrace. That one should've been obvious from the start. Beware, Player, she has a paralyzing bite that might be lethal to you. Males of the species are also traditionally smaller, so it might mean that "Charlotte" isn't a female.

>Gatting.

By gatting Char might have meant "gating", as in opening a gate. The jargon for what you've seen often includes words like "wormhole", "portal", "gating", "jumping", "jaunting", and a whole bucketload of more technical terms.

I do not like this, by the way. Char's being too civil, and appearing amused. And we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Nevertheless, there might be some ways to keep the conversation going. Claim you're an affiliate of scholars of dark age relics from a lord-sponsored college. It can be used to explain how you know what a wormhole is, and what the hazmat protocols are. With any luck, Char will slip you something useful as you talk.

Continued conversation topics.

-Yeeah. A black widow, eh? That's some family.
-Fib like crazy, attempting to give the demons the idea that their ace in the hole isn't as acey as they want to think, and maybe cause present or future infighting among them: "By the way, what were you THINKING, gambling like that? Extending gates beyond their capacity isn't a good idea. To put it mildly. The college has shown that...Hmm. Perhaps you don't know this already? Gate extension can cause ruptures or worse. At best, the gate merely goes critical, becomes unstable and closes AFTER you're through. At worst, like seven times out of ten, going through it is a death sentence and you come out in pieces, if at all. Don't you guys do any research? Or maybe...Someone wanted to get rid of you. Got any enemies?"

If nothing else, Char might respect a good lie.

But I like your ideas for keeping them talking. So long as they're talking with us we're still alive for a while longer. This is also an excellent chance to figure out why there are demons in this dungeoun.

I think it might be a good idea to ask them if they know of lord Byron. He may have been arrogant enough to try and strike a deal with the demons, they get his political prisoners as slaves and he get's something from them. What can demons offer in deals except for musclework?

Keep moving closer slowly and ask them what they have planned for the future. Also ask if they know lord Byron. Keep up with the smooth talker style, the less they think of you as a credible threat the bigger suprise you can spring. And be on the lookout for any rocks that you can kick up in the eyes of the big spider.

-Why are they even trying to get out? Won't the Host jump on them if they go out in the open?
-Explore the Byron connection. Perhaps start innocently on how fortunate it must've been for Byron to dig into the lower tunnels, enabling this.
-Was it her agents that were behind the sleeping guard(s)? Do not admit that he (them?) are still sleeping...Tell you discovered the guard, then went back into town to talk with the villagers (which is true), and mention that the villagers may have awoken them by now (which I hope is the case).

Don't draw your weapons quite yet. If you do, it'll just make it sporting for them. Instead, say that you have someone that wants to talk to them, and explain how your magic-using girlfriend(s) wants to talk. Explain that she gave you a magic orb when you left for ADVENTURE so you wouldn't be too far apart. Said orb sends her a picture of what is going on around, as well as transmitting sounds, so you two could keep talking despite you going on an adventure, while she had to stay behind and I don't know heal sick puppies. Once again, if she calls your bluff, you can go "No, totally! Here, want to hold it? That's the only way you can hear through it." and then offer her the orb. We could repeat the magic lines and such we got and hopefully that would keep her distracted long enough for you to leg it.

Or something. I don't know. Drop your pants and moon her.
>>

He already has something in mind to get a headstart.

Short-term, you want to move across this big hall to the smaller corridors leading out...And try to avoid tripping up if Charlotte dispels the light. Once there, you should be in the green, at least until you come to the big entrance hall. Charlotte might fit through the door, but her mother sure won't, which will even the odds a bit or give you more of a headstart as they move up and around.

Long-term, the plan should be to get outside, warn the village, rescue/wake the guards and give Charlotte a nice, warm welcome, preferably on the business end of two dozen longbows, halberds and what-have-yous.

That said, I don't know how long it will take for Charlotte and her mother to bypass this area and get into the guard fort and beyond. Could be a while, could be mere minutes. Hurrying will probably be of the essence.

Based on Charlotte's reaction, the guards might be sleep-hexed or whatever...Easy targets, whether as food, prisoners or hostages. I wonder how they managed that.

Anyway, it won't do you much good to count on them until you know you can wake them somehow. Yelling and touching didn't do much good earlier so you'll have to count on the villagers. Father MacLaughing might be able to help de-hex the soldiers. The Father also has that church bell, which I bet can be used to signify "trouble" to everyone in the village. Church bells can be nice warning systems.

The hard part will probably be convincing the Father and the villagers that something truly is amiss and getting them to act in time. If you could somehow bring along that one unnaturally sleeping guardsman you'd be up for a good start. Although carrying a guy in armor isn't the best of ideas when you're in a hurry. Hmm.

Glass web? Maybe, but if so, placed there already...And it's hanging from nothing. These things doesn't just cancel out momentum, he'd have hit Charlotte anyway.

Spell cast by mother or charlotte? Possible. Charlotte should've been behind this, due to the similarity between colours, then. But...Surprise 'n all.

Direct interference by Charlotte's father? Possible...But unlikely.

Glass protection spell? Most likely, and furthermore likely a product of the gems strapped to Charlotte's mother's body. Charlotte said they were left with mementos from him, and I'm willing to bet good silver those are IT. Perhaps they weren't even aware of the exact defensive benefits from them.

Now, how to fix that...Ah, the straps. Cut loose the straps. Loosen your blade, or work that halberd one-handedly. And keep your balance, for the love of all that is holy.

Right AND wrong, actually. Perspective is a wonderful thing, Player.

For example, right now, we can see that a wooden plank is being held up in front of Charlotte, shielding her from what could've been a fatal blow.

What can affect you, can be affected by you. She's bullshitting worse than you were, and trying to distract you from an incoming axebee-demon from behind. You CAN get at her this way, but so might they. You have manifested a blue-version of yourself where she is. Probably due to standing by the crystal that's keeping her own blue version here...You can't see that you are, but WE can!

Several options: Cut the straps to the gems keeping Charlotte here, and you in their lair. Get into close melee with Charlotte, making attacking you a bad idea. Try to maneuver behind her, and out of the 'reach' of the crystal'. Don't forget you're standing on a pissed off spider mother, too.

Hurry now, that axebee is coming and Charlotte isn't without bite abilities either.

I see, It's like a projector field that works both ways, that axe fellow behind you could be a danger.

However this does mean that her "shield" has an edge and you can probably roll under it or manipulate it (being a mere board and all.)

Above all you must be wary of the axe blow to be coming from behind you, and the giant ass spider you are currently ridding.

>Stahlvern's weapon.

I think it was a crossbow and that it went poof along with the body of Stahlvern.

>Straps, the plan.

Well, attacking the straps and removing the gems could prevent another demon from doing the same trick Charlotte was doing and rejoining the fray, but I was more thinking of you sending the gems flying free when Charlotte was 'active' on that thing. Not just doing it in the hope that it might have a random benefit. Which it might, mind you.

Still, you could also just try to kill the mother.

One-handed halberd techniques? Not as such...But you DID use it one-handed overhead when you killed Stahlvern.

Another option is to use your body's momentum, and swing it around in circles, but that's rather predictable and could be easy to block...Or you could lose the grip on your only weapon. Plus, it'll make you dizzy after a few turns.

Lastly, there's always breaking the handle in twain and making an axe out of it.

>Not easy to break.

Point. If you can use it as-is, well...Do that.

Hrm. A faint possibility. That slope. Any chance of tossing something small and hefty (metal relic) to dislodge one of the rocks there? If you let her move a bit forward she'd be well positioned to be distracted or brained by a tumbling rock. Or the impression of it, such as you tossing something up and yelling the equivalent of "Have some rockfall!", and then taking advantage of the attention slip to stab her in the face.

My general advice is, don't get pinned down or webbed into immobility. Those 'arms' can also be extended pretty far and can work semi-independently of one another. Think of it as fighting more than one opponent at a time. Ones with a big reach. She'll only need three-to-six of those legs to keep balance for most of the time.

This is assuming "large spider" physics aren't that different from the small ones'...which could be possible. Well, good luck anyway.

You need to go make sure the guards are away. And try to gather back your inventory, the sword and the chain. As well as clear away the webs. Torch fire will probably work. The torch by the slaves was extinguished by the "blood gush" so you may be able to re-light it if you don't want to waste a torch.

>inventory?
Idunno. You're the ones in that pocket, you tell me.
And seriously, stop calling it an inventory. It makes me feel like I have a general store in my backpocket.

Nothing of value... I prettymuch destroyed the rope when trying to get them free earlier.

Well then get her to drink the potion. That way you can get her to carry more junk out of the dungeon.

That and you can ask her just what the fuck is going on. But for now lets get her up and running and get back to town. I think your bruised and battered body would really appreciate a hot meal, a hot bath and a decent bed soon.

it would be best to question her loyalty before that.

cant you find a way to wake her up? a little of water maybe?

She isn' swallowing, so she's coming with me. Father said the acolyte can treat wounded people, I hope he can care for demons. I hope some good comes from this.

>her loyalty
... I'll tie her up.

I'll get my sword as soon as I pass by it. It's probably the other side of the room. And then we'll see if spider silk is flammable.

Am I forgetting anything, besides the guard?

Pick up the chain as well as the strange metal object on that you climbed up and spotted while going in. And bring the weird box with you as well.

Beats me. Back to hell, for all that I care. Which might be accurate.

Maybe you forgot, I'm not full of pockets. And I wont leave this place without my blade.

No I didn't forget. But you should be able to find ways to tie it to your body with the chain or store it in your codpiece or just carry the damn stuff in your hands. Show a little bit of imagination, it's like you never tried to loot a dungeon before.

Well, he's got us there.

>5Copper's pokeman theory.

Not web, and definitely not pokemon. It was a teleport thing, I think. If you check the return method of Stahlvern's body and the demon mage, you'll see that it was similar, only smaller in scale.

>New achievement, same ol' sidequest, interesting tip.

Puzzles, hmm? That's interesting.
