Do you get it yet? Can you see through this?
You know all too well you cannot make things perfect
No, I'll be shifting through lists of these possible loves
With this pain in my brain it feels scattered like doves
Through this sky where my eyes have been drifting towards recently...

Let's not wear a dress in front of Ada's family. I don't think she or her parents could take it.

Break the locket, take out the picture and carefully stuff it back into Dawn’s pocket so the blood won’t ruin it.

Thank the Armored Alto for its service - it seems like the right thing to do. Does it have a name? Not many demons speak.

Ask if the Alto has a name. Also, I think we should sing a Duet.

No, don't do that! We can use it to improve our demons or learn new spells!

I'm pretty sure Roland has already unsummoned it so that when the Polezi arrive, they won't panic from seeing a demon!

Let's take the cat with us, and name him Alto. I think is fitting.
Then, apologise to Uma for her clothes. And then check on Ludgir, this must have been terrifying.
Before i forget, ask Uma and Ludgir what were they doing in the ship earlier. It seem very wierd and lucky to me to find them in such a place.

Is the Alto still around? We should thank it because it did a excellent job during that fight.

Can you tell whether the pictures are part of the charm or not? If they aren't then we should take the pictures out and give them to Dawn or hold onto them to use as leverage. We obviously want to deprive her of her charm so she can't pull any more priest-y stuff, but the pictures are have sentimental value to her (Which might give use leverage / good will during any interrogation.)

And yeah, apologise to Uma for ruining her clothes, but you were kinda starved for summon material as a cat.

I'm pretty sure Roland already unsummoned it because when the Polezi arrive he wants them to notice the Priest and not a bunch of demons.

Let's keep locket and tooth intact and where they are right now (locket with Roland, tooth with Uma) until we wrapped up the matter with the priests and the Unter since we got some downtime now. Can at least Uma borrow some clothes before we meet the important people?

Ludgir, this cat is not filthy, thank you very much.

The picture in the locket isn't part of the charm, out of pity you slip it into Dawn's coat pocket after she's hauled away.

>Alto
The Armored Alto's been de-summoned a while ago...but you notice on the ground where it was it dropped something. It looks like a page from the book it was carrying, you can't read anything on it but keep it in case.

>Cat
You like the name Guillotine, it looks like Uma's going to keep the thing so you might as well get used to it.

After Ada's finished clearing things up with the police another carrier is called down to bring you to the Unterrat building Issei and Flint are inside too. Ludgir goes back home taking Guillotine with him.

Flint: Looks like you had more fun than we had. It is worrying that priests had managed to get down here, who knows how many more a wandering down here in disguise.

The carrier lands on the Unterrat building and your group enters. Ada leads you over to the main council room where her father is waiting by the doors. She talks to him for a while and he expresses obvious disbelief and worry to what she says, Ada must be telling him about what just happened to us.

Sascha opens the door and leads you inside. Four other Spinnensch wait chatting at the table when you come in. There are guards posted on either side of the door and to the sides of the room. Ada get's your attention.

One of the guards walks over to the end of the table and places something on the table, a small ramp leading down to the ground. You hear scuttling as something walks up the plank and onto the table. A small Spinnensch gets everybody's attention before speaking.

Konich: Welcome guests from the surface. I am Konich Dietfried and I am glad we could come together to discuss an alliance between us this day. Now let us begin.

Okay Gallows, time to become the politician you always knew you could be.

"I would like to formally apologize for any property damage that occurred as a direct result of the recent assassination attempt on my life by the church."

In fact, we should figure out where each member of the unterrat stand in regards to the attack. (and which of them hate us for only being here an hour or two and already causing shit to go sideways)

Well, where do we begin...?

First of all, you probably should introduce yourself, and say who are you representing.

Also tell them about our little encounter, and maybe you should apologise for using pagan magic within the city, if they mention it, of course.

Then, you probably should tell them about the whole situation we are in right now.

>A small Spinnensch gets everybody's attention before speaking.
Remember what Ada said: "Don't be rude, but do not try to kiss up to anybody they hate that." and "Look people in the eyes when you talk to them." and "Try not to stare, they will probably stare at you but you do not stare back."

>Welcome guests from the surface. I am Konich Dietfried and I am glad we could come together to discuss an alliance between us this day.
I want to say that we should shake his hand, but I wouldn't want any of the guards to think we were trying to harm him, so I think it's best to just thank him and the other council members for meeting with us.

>Now let us begin.
We should tell these important people about the Priests first before we get into talking about an alliance. The thought of there possibly being more Priests in disguise down here is a more immediate threat to all of us!

"Before we begin talking about an alliance, I must inform you, all of you, of something that you're not going to like hearing about. Just before this meeting, 2 Priests from the Church attempted to assassinate me, my companion Uma, and Ludgir, Ada's younger brother."

And when they ask you to elaborate, tell them the whole story: Starting from your soul being pulled into a cat's body to make you easier to kill leading up to the showdown with Dawn in the park and all the other events in between. And you should tell them that the device the Priests used to disguise themselves as Spinnensch means that there is a very real possibility that there might be more members of Church somewhere here in the Unter.

And even if they think you're full of shit for telling them that story, the fact that Dawn has been arrested shows that there is some truth to what you're saying.

Well, we should explain about the game, how there are only 2 teams, and the church has made pretty clear that it's theem vs everyone else.

Flint starts off the discussion cutting right to the point.

Flint: Me and my companions come from an organization that has recently uncovered something very dire. Our existence depends on us participating in and winning a "game" which soul purpose is to make a new world at the cost of our current one.

Flint: Two teams currently participate in this game: our team, and the Church. If the Church were to succeed in this game then everybody on the losing team would be erased from existence, but if we were to win we would be in a world free of the Church and full of resources and new life.

There's muttering among the Unterrat before Dietfried gets everybody's attention once more

Dietfried: If what you say is true then I assume there is no way for us escape this fate other than to choose a side and potentially win, yes ? That is if what you are saying is true, I'm sorry If I do not believe you but what you are saying sounds ridiculous!

You: I understand if this sounds odd, I hardly believed it myself. We have the evidence to show you that this is in fact real, I'd like to bring up another subject that you might take as a more serious threat that we have more current evidence for. Before I got here me and my friends were attacked by a duo of priests, one was killed but the second one was detained.

This elicits a stronger reaction from the council until Dietfried brings them to order. One speaks up to question you.

Sascha: Unless someone operating ze machine used to bring people let zem in, ze only vay for ze Kirche to get in vould be to have some one in ze Unter be vorking vith zem!

Dietfried: Traitors!? Es konnte nicht sein...There would be no reason for anybody in the Unter to do such a thing! Would there ?

The woman next to Eckardt speaks.

Klara: Not that ve know of, but it could be possible there as been something growing right under our noses and ve haven't noticed it before. It would seem zis is a much bigger problem zan ve imagined.

Dietfried: The last thing we need is traitors leaking secrets to the Konich!...By participating in this game the winners are given shelter from disaster correct ? Then do you think it could be possible that a group of traitors already knew about this and defected to try and save themselves ?

>traitors
Clarify that there is the possibility that whoever let the Priests into the Unter, might not be doing it willingly. The Church has their own magic users, so maybe they're controlling whoever let them in? Or perhaps a loved one is being held hostage to ensure cooperation? There's just no way of knowing for sure until we find out who let the Church in.

Also mention that we don't know how long this has been going on or how many Church members are here. If we're lucky, those 2 Priests we're the only ones here.

>vill ve have to begin Ausgrabung?
Ask what Ausgrabung is?

>How vill ve ensure ze safety of our citizens?
Explain that upon victory, anyone inside the Gilded Cage when the world is erased, will be unaffected.

We should explain that in order to win this "game" we need to gather Azurite. Ask if there's any located here in the Unter? That could be what the Church is after, along with any Arcamagikal weapons and technology they can get their hands on.

The problem is not the amount of people that can come to with us, he have space to spear, the problem is that if they have traitors, we will be leaking information of our movements. Unless, we use Issei's abillity to detect the impure, but that would take a HELL of a lot of time, and it is not 100% reliable.
>>
No. 857134 ID: 13fded

We suspect there is enough space, but that should be evaluated before bringing everyone. Assuming everyone can be squeezed in the Cage we have to consider the resource consumption. How much food do we have, how much water. I'm sure the Unter have it's own stocks, but this is an active city, all the labor to sustain it's citizens' necessities would need to cease after the evacuation. The search will take time, maybe it would be wise to wait some time before sheltering large amount of people.
Of course, by large I mean the entire population of the city. If we are talking about representatives of the Unter willing to help with our mission and plan the eventual evacuation we can comfortable house hundreds.
But since trustworthy suddenly become a concern it may be worth chose careful those who should be the initial representatives.

The gilded cage has room for entire armies, Everybody inside it will survive. Relocating everybody there will be an enormous undertaking, but it means you can basically save the entire population. We should really track down the mole before we end up letting them in, though.

Eckardt: Zat may be true, but zey may also be a treacherous fool ready to ruin our city. Ve cannot take ze chance.

You: True...As for the problem of space I feel that the Gilded Cage will have enough for everybody here, the interior doesn't follow the same laws of physics as the any other building would.

Everyone turns to Dietfried who paces back and forward on the table, it's less of pacing and more of scuttling with his tiny spider legs.

Dietfried: To be honest it seems like we have no real choice in this matter. We either join and have some chance at avoiding death and fight the Kirche or we wait around until the end comes while traitors destroy the Unter from the inside.

Mark: Or we can join the Kirche instead, with their larger resources, numbers, and authority we'd have a much better chance to-

Dietfried throws his drinking glass at Mark who manages to avoid it before it collides with his forehead.

Dietfried: OR! I could kick you off of this council for mutinous intentions! The last thing any of us will be doing is defecting to the tyrants of the Kirche! Say we do win on the Kirche's side and we get to a new world, then what ?

Dietfried: Who's to say they will not be using us for labor to build new cities ? The second we join the Kirche we give up our way of life out of fear like COWARDS!

Dietfried stops pacing, the whole room goes silent. He looks at you and Flint and then looks back at the Unterrat council members, after some more silence he speaks.

Dietfried: Even if we do lose I refuse to allow myself to life in shackles! If our people wish to defect out of fear than let them. If anybody working under our government tries to defect I will personally arrange a firing squad for you. We have been fighting for years to keep ourselves safe from those damned Grubswine and their cowardly gods and I will not throw that away for the slightest chance of surviving!

Dietfried: I motion to join these Pagans to work towards a new world once and for all. All for ?

Everybody in the room raises there hand, even Mark with a look of shame on his face raises his hand for the movement.

Dietfried: And no one against ? Good, it carries. Klara arrange a party to go with them and check on this Gilded Cage, I will be arranging our units here for now. Dismissed!

Everybody rises from the seats and begins to exit the council room, you follow Flint out and Ada follows behind you.

You: Yeah I was nervous that whole time. I'm glad your leader has his head screwed on right though. That little speech he gave at the end there was great.

Ada: With a little more work we will be having Unter Soldiers stationed in the Cage in no time! It is sort of funny, if not for those Priests showing up I do not think we would have had as much for our side than we did.

As you and Ada begin to leave you hear somebody calling for your attention. You turn around to see a LARGE Spinnensch coming toward you carrying something on a tray, actually it's someone. Dietfried is being carried on the tray.

Dietfried: You are the leader of this operation correct ? The other Pagan said you were.

You: Well sort of. Our operation has many people running it, to be honest I don't think I do that much leading.

Dietfried: Regardless I wanted to speak to someone who knew a little more about this whole mess; that and I wanted to apologize about my little outburst in the conference hall, it was very unprofessional of me. I just can't help it when it comes to the Kirche.

You: Really I understand! What you said back there really got to me, and I'm glad to be on the same team as somebody like you.

Dietfried: That's great to hear! So tell me, this game ? what will we have to do to win it ? Are there rules that I or any of my men should know ?

You give Dietfried a quick run down of what The Administrator told you. You've got a good grasp on what will happen but you still tell him that there is somebody who can answer more in depth questions if he needs.

Dietfried: So...collecting Azerite is our main goal here ? I understand! We have found a large mound of Azerite that we planned to study but if it's necessary to winning I'm sure we can hand it over. I'm glad I could talk to you Roland but I need to get going, there's a lot I have to be doing right now. Lets browse weapons and other stuff at the market to see if there’s anything cool we can use.

Then on the way back we can find some food!

We should ask while we can if they have a piece of tech that would allow you to try out being a Spinnensch like the people from the church where able to do to blend in. I think it would be fun to try out and it’ll cause less of a commotion if a two legged person isn’t walking around getting a tour scince the whole no surface dwellers thing was previously a thing.

Hitting up a restaurant and then maybe check out the marketplace. Assuming you don't cause a stir by walking around on two legs.

(Don't even think about changing into your disguise roland. You'd still have the same problem as before except it'd be way more weird)

>There's still plenty of stuff I can show you, but I will understand if we must go back to the Cage.
"Well, we do have to go back, but we don't have to go back right now. And we can't leave yet, since we have to wait for Klara to arrange that party that's going to be coming with us."

>Restaurant? Market? Something else?
"Well-"
*insert the sound of Roland's stomach growling here*
"Oh! Uhh, well, that answers that question. I guess that fish I ate while I was trapped in a cat, stayed with the cat. Do you have a particular restaurant in mind? And, uh, would you mind helping me order something that's safe for humans to consume?"

We can always check out the Market and other things after we eat.

Make sure you stop by the Waystone Room and insert your Waykey into one of the Waystones, so that you can have a quick and easy way to travel to and from the Unter in the future.

Nobody seemed to complain about Roland when Ada was leading us around earlier. I'm guessing that nobody will care as long as we've got a Spinnensch guiding us. Or maybe everyone knows who Ada is because of her father and they think that if Ada and her family are ok with us being here, then we're not dangerous. Which might explain how Uma got on that boat with Ludgir.

Your stomach rumbles loudly before you can answer Ada. Your normal body may not have been through a lot but you still feel like you've been chased all over the city. Food sounds good right now.

Ada: Great! I know a perfect place not too far from here.

Ada leads you to the restaurant. It doesn't look like anything too fancy, but compared to the mess halls and prison cafeterias you've eaten in it's a 5 star. As you enter you get a few looks from the patrons, the talking dies down a bit as people mutter. Ada orders for you and you talk a little while you wait for your food.

You: So...it sounds like the Spinnensch have a bit of a bad history with the Church. Like, I know everyone has but that speech Dietfried gave made it sound like it was pretty bad.

Ada: Yeah, the Church seems to show an extreme prejudice to non-humans. Apparently we were created by devils and evil spirits, not gods. They used that as an excuse to enslave us and treat us however they liked. I would tell you more but History was my worst subject, not as interesting as making bombs.

Your food gets here. You know Ada would never poison you, but the meat is green, the mushrooms are purple and the other things on the plate are squirming around. You're drink is sweet like cherries but as far as you can tell non-alcoholic. You're...iffy on eating this food.

Ada: What?...You are not scared of some food are you ?

>As you enter you get a few looks from the patrons, the talking dies down a bit as people mutter.
The Church did a really good job in making sure the Spinnensch don't trust humans. Hopefully, we can fix that.

>Food
You'd better not complain loud enough for the restaurant staff to hear you. They might take offense at you complaining about the food!

Besides, when the Spinnensch move into the Gilded Cage, they're gonna bring their food with them, so you might as well get used to eating it now.

>What?...You are not scared of some food are you?
"Uh, normally, the food isn't this.....color. And it usually isn't squirming around on the plate. But I'm willing to try anything once.....and you ordered it for me, so it's gotta be safe for humans to eat."

Then pick up one of the squirming things with your fork and say, "Here goes nothing." Now start eating your food and make sure you clean your plate!

Narrow your eye at the challenge to your androgynity.

Stab and kill a wriggly, then mix it in with the meat and the mushroom for maximal food synergy! Take a hesitant bite. Remember this isn't the last time you'll eat Unter cuisine. If it's not very good, at least you'll know what not to ask for next time. The Unter is bound to have SOMETHING that will fit your palate.

Besides, this is Ada's treat. YOU MUST EAT (or at least sample) IT.

You: After the little surprise I had in the kitchen today ? Yes, a little.

You take a bite of the food starting with the green meat, It's actually delicious! You don't know how to place the taste, its sort of like beef but not the same. The mushrooms are crunchy and a little sweet too. You stab one of the worm things with your fork and take a bite it has a fishy taste to it, kind of like some sort of shellfish. Ada giggles and takes on of the worms still alive and eats it whole.

Ada: They taste better alive. It's not bad though is it ?

You: No, it's actually really good! What is it ?

Ada: Grubswine steak with a side of sweetspore mushrooms and live shell worms. I always order it when I come here!

The meal sounds disgusting but that doesn't stop you from eating. You haven't had a meal like this since Luucc's bar. You wonder how Luucc is doing, you haven't seen him in a while. While you have a moment to rest and eat you think now might be a good time to level up!

You feel like being in a cat's body has increased your agility! [Agility-8 ==> Agility-10]

Your [Summoning 3] becomes [Summoning 4]!

You and Ada continue to have a conversation over dinner, it feels odd with the ceiling lights outside shining inside. The entire Unter feel so alien which makes sense of course, but you'd never thought you'd get to see such a place in your life.

You: Y'know, I may have almost died here and everyone keeps looking at me like I'm some sort of freak but I like this place!

Ada: Yes...It will be gone soon though, There is no way to keep it once the game is over.

You: Then we'll just have to build another one won't we ? This time it'll be above ground, it won't really be an "Unter" then but you know what I mean.

Issei: we're ready to head of now, the party's been made and they can come up to the gilded cage anytime soon.

Uma: Wait! Can we get some food while we're here too ? I saw all the plates people ordered and I realized I haven't eaten anything all day.

Flint: I'm curious about the food giant spiders make too. I managed to get some money for sealing the deal with the Konich, they use scraps of paper for money which is weird but if it works...

Before you can really respond to them they've already sat down at another table. Ada looks at you and shrugs before moving over and calling a waiter over to order for everybody else. For a little bit you almost forget about the impending doom of all you love and stand for, for now having a meal with your friends is all you focus on. Your conversations go from serious topics to more friendly banter. Issei shows his bird-watching journal to you, the images inside are detailed and amazingly life-like. From what you hear it sounds like he's been interested in being a bird breeder but due to wandering so much has never really started. Uma asks Ada about the various insects found in the Unter and if there's anywhere she can read about them. Flint is mostly silent, but interjects here and there. You also go through three plates of fish which you're guessing is a side effect of being trapped in a cat

You can't help but feel a bit relaxed in this moment even with your situation, especially now that you've managed what could be a strong alliance with an advanced secret nation. You've strengthened the red teams numbers and power significantly today and brought your team closer to victory. Hopefully you can keep this up until the end.
