In the world of Teagea there are many wondrous places and peoples; from the modest kobolds to the villainous elves. It is a world where a man must strive to find his place lest he be swept aside by the times, and even the best of men struggle on the brink of ruin.

Today, young squire Francis of Athenry, you find yourself in the early hours before your first battle. Even as you review this inner monologue of yours you march with your youth brigade inexorably toward the enemy lines and your first chance, hopefully of many, to repay the vile foe for their transgressions against your clan.

the party consists of six squires sponsored by the venerable Chuck the Kobold smasher.

You are Francis of athenry, you were rendered destitute when your family's castle was sacked, looted, and burned while you were off learning cat skinning in the goblin lands. you seek vengeance and to regain your lost wealth. you currently have on you: full suit of quilted leather armor, kite shield, war hammer, eight days of cat jerkey, and a single gold coin.

Your compatriots are:
The stoic Yeosophine of Shistershire, who wears her father's plate armor and wields her brother's poleaxe. she carries nothing else that you are aware of.

The hot-blooded Swordhammer Thoranvil, who is completely naked cave for two pieces of leather, one of which is on his empty eye socket. he fights with matched broad swords. he has a coin purse sewn onto his right buttock.

The calculating Hotario Hornswaggle; a halfling who seems to desire nothing more than adventure and to let his saber drink of the blood of the enemy. he wears chain mail and carries a jeweled saber and thick steel buckler.

The mysterious Frederick, who claims to be a tiefling, though you've never heard of such a thing. he's friendly enough, though/ he carries a spear and wears a leather jerkin and canvas pants.

Finally, there's the sickeningly cheerful moonblossom Honeydew, who is a spectacular archer but has no other redeeming characteristics. you're not even sure what gender the grinning elf is, or why it's even in this war. (s)he wears a silk and iron brigandine and carries a recurve bow and some sort of magic quiver; the elf never runs out of arrows, and you have no idea where (s)he keeps pulling them from.

"Which part of the field should we lend our arms to?" Moonblossom eagerly inquires.

Your sponsor placed you in charge due to your level headedness, the party will follow your wherever you lead them.

You see that on the left flank (1) there is a line advancing on the enemy, you can see from the number of dead that litter the field this is at least the fourth attempt at taking that position.

in the center (2) you see another line of infantry that is also advancing, from their sloppy and uneasy manner you take it they have recently regrouped for another assault having failed a previous charge and retreated back to the rear. they don't look confident.

on the right flank (3) you see the Souther auxiliaries running down the fleeing enemy. you may not be able to catch up to them.

far off in the field, though, you see a group of soldiers that have been encircled by the enemy (4), they are cut off and fighting desperately to break free and retreat. you might be able reach them in time to help if you dump your packs and run.

>On the other hand, he did charge up to the battle line. Looks like you get to check corpses for a while!

this is the most likely scenario. it can't be more than an hour since you left the fight, Frederick may still be alive. You should go find him, but nighttime is for skirmishers and stormtroopers. It'll be very dangerous and at least three of your party needs to remain at the camp in case the filthy Aztecs try to infiltrate.

who should you take on this rescue mission?

Take Hotario.
The Kith are supposed to be sneaky, he's decent in a fight, and that leaves the loud guy who'd inevitably yell at an inopportune moment, an elf who although also sneaky would be better spent on defense, and the dependable Yeospohine, to keep the former two idjits in line.

fortunately your fight ran the latest, and there wasn't time for either side to clear this part of the field of dead and wounded before sundown.

after searching the piles of dismembered Aztecs you find that Frederick is not among them.

betrayal is possible, but not likely as Aztecs don't take prisoners nor do they respect the rules of parley.

You have a nagging in the back of your mind that you should keep looking for him, but where would he go?

Oh sure, let me just get out my magic wand and speak the words of power that will allow the halves of his tail to fuse back together!

I don't know what wondrous fantasy world you live in, but here in Teagea, grievous injuries can't simply be undone by finding the severed body part. Perhaps next you'll be trying to tell me that there's a cure for polio, too.

Anyway, you get Frederick back to camp. He's lost a good amount of blood, he's exhausted from fighting all day, and on top of it all he's lost his spear. He'll recover in a few days once he gets some rest and some extra food, but the battle will likely be over by then.

Yeosophine is the most concerned for Frederick; the two of them are very close.

General Shaudayr of the Souther auxiliaries, to his left Rear Admiral Floyd of the Goblin air navy, Arbitrator General Baron Oglaf, and Commandant Pubah, leader of the kobold scouts.

they seem to be in a heated argument over how to proceed.

"I've lost three airships already, Arbitrator general." says Rear admiral floyd, "I refuse to risk any more of my air crews to that meat grinder!"

"I assure you, If you push your ships forward once more we'll be able to breach their lines and press on to the fortress." replies Baron Oglaf.

"I recall that's what you said yesterday, and we all know how well that turned out for us. I refuse to endanger my fleet any further, at least until my ground parties can recover the Kirov." snaps Rear Admiral Floyd.

The generals barely notice you, but you've never been one to let arguments and politics get in the way of your mission.

It's obvious if someone doesn't do something this battle will drag on until the Aztecs win. but where can you lead your small band to do the most good?
You see that there is a large artillery camp(1), probably the cause of all the downed airships. you might be able to infiltrate the camp with the aid of the kobold scouts and sabotage the guns.

To the north you see a slave-powered behemoth(2), you could convince the REar admiral to risk one of his airships to place your party on it, to eliminate it from the inside.

The Rear Admiral claimed that he needs to recover the Kirov(3), you've already fought there and are somewhat familiar with the difficulties. Further, it looks like the Goblin Air Marines are fighting there right now.

far behind the lines, you notice the icon of army command marking the known position of the Aztec general's camp(4). If you kill him it may throw the enemy into disarray or even demoralize them into retreating.

what will you do?

Souther, huh?

>>
No. 80963 ID: 7eda8b

Infiltrating the HQ sounds stupendously dangerous. We probably won't be able to convince the Goblins to send an airship to deposit us on the Behemoth without something in his favor first, which means either taking out their artillery or recovering the Kirov. Retrieving the airship seems really dangerous, since the enemy's focused on it. Moreso with their artillery still going.

I vote an attack on the artillery (1). It's away from the front lines, but probably not loaded with elite bodyguards. If you can get in quietly, and get out quickly, you should be able to avoid the main body of enemies.

Speed's essential, but you guys are PCs, so you can probably go fast. Still, I'd request some high-speed assistance for this. Not a whole army, but a little help if things go bad. Cavalry riding something exotic and sneaky, or maybe Souther auxiliaries. Those guys are fast, right?

>KILL THE CANNON

You respectfully interrupt the general staff's argument and propose a daring plan for you to infiltrate the artillery camp and disable the guns. After some boring debate a rousing brainstorming session gives birth to a intricate complex attack:

with the aid of the kobold Scouts your party will disable the Aztec guns, upon completion Rear Admiral Floyd will position his air ships above the behemoth where his air marines will board and capture it. Meanwhile the souther auxiliary will maneuver around to support your mission.

>>
No. 81023 ID: 7eda8b

Do you have any means of lighting fires?

If they're like normal cannons, they have powder which goes boom when you light it, creating pressure in a tube which hurls a projectile out. If you pile up that powder around the base and light it, the whole machine should detonate nicely.

Detail this plan to the others and approach.
>>
No. 81039 ID: e7666f

>>80999
Well, one way to do this would be to spread out- even though the cannons are very destructive, they're limited in AOE and firing speed. If you spread out, you might be able to reach them before you lose more than one or two people, though you WILL lose those people.
I would advise stealth, trickery, or some kind of ranged fire, though you'll want to move immediately after shooting.

>powder that cracks with the thunder of gods when set on fire, LAMBDA OMICRON EPSILON, other strange gibberish and mad ravings

Honestly, sometimes I truly think I'm going mad.

>Don't charge the cannons. Goddamn. Sneak up on them. If you can't sneak up on them, forget it.

We've been sneaking up on them. they're about as snuck up on as they're gonna get. Any closer and I'll be able to spit on them.

I may not know how they work, but I know what cannons do. I'm thinking that they need to be pointing at you to make you dead, and they look so big that We can probably get in amongst them to make the prospect of using the cannon on uus a bad idea. I see some wagons and stuff and a long line of poorly armed soldiers moving boxes up to the cannon. and the cannon are of course making LOUD NOISES and probably making widows down at the front.

I'm thinking this might be easier than you're telling me it is, voices in my lunatic head.

Keep in mind you will eventually need to retreat. See if you can start blasting Aztec positions. In the confusion and... darkness...? (Is it night?) you can perhaps do a lot of damage. If the cannons prove too difficult to load and fire, or if the enemy rapidly gains its bearings to attack you, focus instead on sabotaging the guns by detonating large amounts of blast powder in/around them.

(If it is night, consider using Invert to turn your images into white lines on a black background, which is universally understood to represent darkness or similar esoteric effects.)

After a short fight you kill all the gun crews and driven the ammunition bearers off.

You see in the distance the goblins have begun their assault on the behemoth.

you are now left with the question of what to do with the cannon.

Fire at their HQ or in that general direction
>>
No. 81136 ID: 30ea23

Don't fire at the Behemoth. You might accidentally hit the airship.

Fire at the HQ or at other cannons if you can't see the HQ.

First did you really roll? Second you know that the board has a rolling function for you right? Because I'm thinking that you might not have really rolled; the easiest way to prove if you did or not is just to roll on the thread itself.

GM gets to decide, regardless.

Blow up the cannon you just fired and get the fuck out of there before a tidal wave of angry Aztecs comes to fuck you up.

I'm thinking that everything we could have used to blow the cannon up with has already been blown up.

Good idea, we make it back to base, and are greeted by a cheering army. apparently what we did was a big deal.

After giving my account of the mission, we are informed that shortly after the behemoth was boarded the Souther auxiliaries assaulted the Aztec HQ and killed the general. there is now nothing standing in the way of this mighty army on its quest to push the Aztecs out of our lands.
