Kobold's are regular mammals here, Shabin Sr. died in childbirth.

Those are dog kobolds. Remember earlier when it was found out that Chee escaped the slave pens? There was a reward put out for a "mammalian kobold child."

The draconic kobolds are reptiles, not mammals.

"What if I were to marry Lily, but promised to stay out of trouble? Furthermore, how did you go about making the other three paintings look normal? How about we try to find out what causes Lily that grief, instead of... this whole business?"
>"I would consider that if I felt you could hold that promise, even if I know you had every intention to do so. Trouble seems to find you. I turned the other 3 paintings simply by giving the ladies a new life, completely taking them out of their normal environment. It is drastic, but has proven effective until now. I don't know how you would go about telling the exact cause of grief, but you plan on speaking to Dereego, yes? Mayhaps you can scrounge information out of him. If you do, I would be glad to work with you to counteract the problem, rather than completely uprooting her life. Believe me when I say I have not enjoyed the initial phases at any point, with any lady, except perhaps the first."
"I'll do that! I'll find him somehow. Did you ever see what Degeero hid behind the paint?"
>"Hm? What ar- oh, that. It was I who hid it. There were other details in Lily's painting, but they did not seem to fit in what should be a single person portrait, and so I covered it. Would you like to see the full painting?"

Yes please
and if it ain't too personal, we would defiantly like to know why he didn't mind the initial phase of the first lady. Because, alright, she looks like Momo and you just singled her out. Something's has to be up. Or paranoia is getting to us.

I race back to the arena to grab the painting and come back to him. He's prepared some solvents and the like, I guess he had these on hand for taking off whatever magic stuff or another is on these paintings.

>"It's probably nothing. Degeero said things of no consequence more often than he said things that mattered. Telling the difference is what I found intriguing about him, much like a puzzle."

"So how come you didn't mind the first wife?"
>"I got to her before she became attached to anyone or anywhere. She was affectionate at first sight, all I had to do was introduce myself. No charades were necessary."

>"... up to this point, I've figured if this dead kobold had anything to do with her misfortune, then it was metaphorical and I couldn't possibly know what it really meant. Yet with all this talk of necromancy, it may have been more literal than I gave it credit for. Yet still, are we to gather up every kobold and keep them from Lily? There is too little we know, and forgive me if I think all of these mammal kobolds look the same, and so little has changed as far as I'm concerned. This is all disregarding what I say about Dereego saying more things of no consequence."

I can't really argue about them looking similar, to be honest. If that's Chee though, then you guys are right on the money. Otherwise, I have no idea. If it is Chee, then I still have no idea.

Hey, did she ever tell us where she got the hat?
>>
No. 351381 ID: 1854db

>>351377
Whoa, I wasn't expecting to see Chee like THAT in the painting. But I guess I should've. Yeah, she's a lich in the future. Don't worry about it, she's not really evil or anything. One thing though that's very important... if Chee ever is NOT skeletal in that painting we would be in serious trouble of creating a massive time paradox. Sooo yeah we should avoid that.

Hey, that hat Chee's wearing in the picture... is that Lily's, except straw? ...oh god... if Chee is in the painting because her fate is tied to Lily's... then it might be impossible for us to change what happens to her.
>>
No. 351382 ID: e3f578

No, Fen. It's for sure, that's her alright. And I doubt it's a metaphor. When Chee becomes a Lich some years from now after she grows up and necromancy becomes a thing, this happens...

Tell him you know who it is, but you won't divulge this information. But you may tell him this: That no, Fen, I'm sorry but you or Shup won't be able to change whatever Chee is going to do. Why you know it is something else you won't divulge on risk of sounding crazy, but it has nothing to do with life or love. Lily's already made her mark on Chee's life with her kindness, nothing will stop Chee whatever she is going to do. I'm sorry. Maybe if you tell Chee to never harm Lily, that when the day comes she has to do something to her or for her that seems really important, tell her to not do it. Out of respect for you. But I doubt it, she becomes a stubborn woman and very cold even when she was alive.

I'm not sure, ask how his other wives looked in the picture. With others or different faces. Were they simple looks of meloncoly or anything different?
>>
No. 351386 ID: d97c6d

>>351377
Judging by the hat, that's probably Cheelop. But I don't think Chee herself is the cause of Lily's unhappiness, they're probably just tied to the same condition. I'm sorry, but you're probably going to be killed by a lich, and stopping that from happening will keep us from existing to help you stop it.

...Let's rip causality a new one!

Umm, what exactly was our goal with the whole time traveling thing anyways?
>>
No. 351388 ID: 1854db

>>351387
The last two times this happened by accident, and our goal was just to help whoever we got stuck with. This time around, the point was so that we would learn about the morality of gods. Helping Fen is what we're doing alongside that. I'd also like to prevent the calamity that destroys the continent, without also preventing the events that make Chee who she is...

Well it's not really a paradox if... uh... yeah, I don't know how it works. Time travel is weird.
>>
No. 351391 ID: e3f578

>>351390
I suspect it works on observation. i.e. a paradox is not possible unless the traveler has observed something in the present and effects the past to make that perception of the event impossible.

Makes no real sense, but observation is apparently a thing in science and I think that a joke is that that subject of science that observation is a part of makes no real logical sense without a mathematical equation made by savants. Lord knows SCIENCE is part of time travel, magic or not so hey, might apply.
>>
No. 351394 ID: f70e5e

I got the impression there is a hard cap on how much we can change the past. so preventing the disaster may not be possible but we might be able to mitigate it or negate its effects. i.e instead of destruction it time displaces the continent so it pops back into existence in our time. or we could end up splinting the timeline and making a new world where things happened differently rather than altering our own past. i would like to go on record as hating time travel by the way.

worst case scenario is that the world we are in is a temporary magical construct that chee is maintaining in her sleep. we should proceed as if this is not possible because if it is we can't do much about it, and we might as well do as much good as we can. also never discuss it outside of spoiler tags. if the world is a dream talking about it might cause whatever is dreaming it to wake up. this would explain the memory loss since chee might not have been able to get data going that far back. if you need to know how to make spoiler tags go here http://tgchan.org/kusaba/

hey fen, buddy, when you get home can you look up a love potion recipe in Degraro's book. It's always helped out other people we've had the pleasure of advising, and Degeero's a prophet so he probably had access to Minci's formula from the future or is the actual origenal inventor that Minci may have pulled research from. Minci's potion works as intended but Degeero's might have interesting side affects.

PS ask Shup if Degreero's weird enough to make a love potion

IIRC, In these "visions to the past" we are supposed to learn of people and events, and as an added bonus, we can manipulate or change MINOR details in the present, but we cannot rewrite what has already been set in stone, Chee is destined to become who she is, the area is destined to be obliterated. We can only change the how, why, when and where and possibly who.

I could be wrong though.

You could do that, sure. I mean, it's not like you asked for any of this, and we can just jump to Kip or Zizi to help them deal with the false king. Just bear in mind that you'll still have to kill people in order to keep your aura down, and watch out for mercenaries that are after your bounty if the king doesn't decide that you're no longer a threat. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck this was a BAD IDEA.

Nngh. It seems like this guy *might* be the god of the earth, and he can see through time. He is weakened for some reason and this means he's becoming confused about what is present and what is past. Alternatively he isn't confused, but expects everyone else to see how time works just as he does.

In any case, he is undead. The only way to truly kill him is healing him. You might be able to delay him by chopping him up, so you can run... but at this point I think we are totally fucked. We dug too deep into the secrets of the past and discovered a monster. Argh.

In fact... since we can't kill him, how about telling him that we agree to kill the Chee that wishes to end the dream. We don't want to end the world. If he turns Chee into a lich now, however, the future will change and we might no longer remember agreeing to it. He should wait until she comes to him.

What we should've asked is what caused Chee to hold a grudge against the gods and liches.

Alternatively, go stop Lichee now before Degeero kills Fen.

Wait, didn't you remove your coat before going to sleep? Also, the coat and clothing colours are swapped, but I'm assuming that's an artistic error. Maybe history's changed more than we thought? Send us to Kip, in the present. He'll know what happened.

Do I even know a sleep spell? I don't think I do. Do I? My head! I moved around in my sleep a lot so maybe I put on my coat I don't knowww.

Augh, Lichee is way over on the side of the world, it would take me.. well if I burned magic as fast as I could it could take hours but maybe with time travel something is possible! It's worth a try! Apparently that was a god he was fighting, are all of you even sure Fen could handle it even with help?!

"Chop, there you are!"
>"Puny one. What brings you back to our caves?"
"Where is Kradis?"
>"Who?"

Okay I don't want to think about this maybe Kip is still alive in which case maybe I can send because he is a nice person and I don't need to know precisely where he is so let me give it a shot here we g-

Oh wow okay hi Kip! Or Dirk, I guess, do you use that name nowadays? We're time-traveling spirits that helped Fen in the past- we're why he knew you tripped Zizi up. Quickly, tell us what happened after he went to find Dereego. We just got kicked out of the past, sent back here to our present. I think we changed way too much!
>>

Hi, Kip, we're some advice souls. We were with Fen back when you knew him, and were in your head a couple times as well, but we had an illusion spell or something keeping you from actually hearing us. How's immortality been treating you?

Kip, Degeero turned out to be a sleeping god. He just kicked us out of the past to stop us from saving Fen and now we need you to really quickly tell us what happened after that so we can get back to Fen before Degeero kills him.

Oh, and yes it does actually work that way. The past is happening right now and we can fix it. What do we need to do?

Ah, it really is those voices, but much clearer than I remember.

Well, this is the most interesting thing to happen in decades. I've just been sitting around, being immortal. Let's see... it's been so long. Fen, Fen, yes.. he came back with Lily and Cheelop intact, at least at first glance. He fought Kajos the next day. He won, but not before Kajos stabbed him through a few times, revealing Fen to have been made a zombie.

He killed Kajos, then dragon knights swarmed the stage and eventually overpowered Fen. It was a rather... memorable day, to say the least. Kiki came back that day, as well. Zizi and her went to investigate what just happened to Fen, and I fled. I wasn't involved much to say what happened, but things only went downhill from there.

So Dereego was a sleeping god? He must have realized it after his exile.

If that's the case... well, I don't know if you can save him as it is. In the short term, if you find a way to go back to that point, maybe you can do something about the fight with Kajos. I'm sorry, Sirs, but this is far beyond my expertise.

Dammit. We probably can't prevent Fen from becoming a zombie, unless we can reenter the past before he goes to Dereego.

We made things worse... if I could, I'd just revert everything back to how it was before we helped Fen.

Anyway if you want more excitement in your life, go seek out the tower at the end of the peninsula on the western continent. Tell them Chee sent you- wait actually with this changed future we don't even know if we control that tower anymore! It seems that our Chee remains isolated from what is changed though... Hmm. We can't guarantee anything right this instant. We need to check on our holdings, then tell you where you can go, or where we can pick you up.

Unless... we confront the god here and force them to stop, or die. Since the god seemed to be aware of events in both the present and past, we could assume that his past self will yield in order to save his future self. Chee! Lichee wants to kill the gods. Well, we have one target RIGHT NOW.

Ok, got it. So what happened to Lily? To Momo?
Do you know who the fake king was? Or what Shup was planning? What happened to Cheese?
Why did the entire area turn into a desolate wasteland?

Ok, here's what I have so far:
Momo was looking for ways to resurrect the dead; with her help we should be able to restore Fen.
Kiki, Zizi, and Cheelop all became lich-killers after that point; if we tell them what really happened then we can prevent Cheelop from starting down the road that prompted Degeero to kill Fen.
You're highly immortal, so we'll probably try to have you get Fen out of there fairly intact - assuming we can't get back in time to alter the Degeero fight.

Shup took Lily and his wealth and fled to the southern kingdom. Don't worry, he took good care of her. I never saw Cheese or Momo again, and the fake king issue was never resolved. Too many undead rose in time, and the land slowly turned barren as a result.

The thought of a different reality never occurred to me. If you can go back and save Fen, and our civilization, then I would be in your debt. Chee, are you there?

>"Yes! I'm going to check on everyone to see if much else has changed, and fly off to fight the earth god! I might be there in a couple of hours! Do you remember where the location was at?"

I do. If the god doesn't exist in a single point of time, he may in the same area. I don't know how it works.

>"Neither do I!"

It doesn't sound like fate can be so easily changed, though. Tell me honestly, miss, what are our chances? Are we not locked in destiny?

>"Screw destiny! I'm saving Fen, I don't care how! I don't care if I don't even know how to fight a god!"

Gods may be more powerful than any single mortals, but I don't believe even gods are invincible. Between you and I, we may have a chance. Yet, if you have strong allies, perhaps we will have a better chance.

I can still feel the links between everyone except Kradis! Should I bring anyone? Ears, Shabin, Clamp and Tae are the only ones who can fight, as Tom and Minci... not really. It's dangerous, and maybe it should just be me and Kip, but... well, I don't know!

Bring Ears too since he met Fen met once. Might be nice for them to be reacquainted however this time travel thing works.

Are you linked to Lichee? I mean, as Fen you did become her idol. If you became tight friends with Kip through that, you have got to have made a connection there if you haven't through being friendly. Also, fuck, shot in the dark here, but try Momo too since she was practicing necromancy. You became sorta friends and didn't really betray one another, and spared her.

Rally the remaining fucking Fen Gang man plus Ears.

You have the antimagic device attuned to you only. Ears will be unable to fight near you if you keep it active, and Kip will not be able to use any of his limited elemental power. You do still have the antimagic device right? I wonder if it works against a god.

If you somehow lost the antimagic device, then we can bring Ears, but only if he still has the protective amulet. From what we saw, the earth god is a very powerful geomancer, and having an extra geomancer on our side to counteract that could be useful. I would avoid taking Shabin or Tae as they are not particularly durable or skilled, outside of Shabin's rage mode, and she is rather unpredictable during that. Clamp might be durable enough to fight with our healing assistance, but that would mean we wouldn't be able to focus as well. That choice has advantages and disadvantages.

Ears won't remember it, but he's probably one of the creator's pets, so you should definitely ask him. Tell everyone else what's going on and make the offer, but make sure they know they're under no obligation to come. If you can, send a message to Lich Chee, as well, I'm sure she'd love the chance to kill the god that zombified Fen.
>>

I can put the anti magic shield somewhere where it won't get in the way. I'll bring Ears. Clamp would be good if I know I need muscle, but I don't know that, so it would just be risking. Besides, he really doesn't have any reason to help me with this! Neither does Ears actually, but I have a feeling he'll come if I ask nicely.

I don't sense any links to Momo, or anyone else from the past aside from Kip.

"Hey! Hey, Lich Chee! Are you there?"

>"So you've made a connection with me, somehow? Did you see the past?"
"Yes and it's still going! I'm going to fight the earth god to try and save Fen right now! Will you assist?"
>"Assist? Assist you? Construct Chee, if this is happening, I will merge with you, and we may live again. Would you like that?"

Sure, but first, she needs to tell us what she remembers happening in the past, related to Fen. Has her recollection of events changed with our changes, or does she remember what originally happened? If so, anything she can tell us about the false king or what happened Lily, Fen, Momo, Kiki, Zizi, Kip, Shup... yeah, basically telling us what happened would be useful.
>>
No. 351582 ID: e3f578

Does merge mean Chee dies or lose her consciousness or whatever? Because I doubt she wants to be cold and find life meaningless beyond fighting. It's nice not being evil and cynical and hope for a normal life after this IS over.

Man, I guess. Let's just kick some ass and save Fen. It ain't right for him to go out like that. I'd think you'd be more powerful separate, to be honest, even if Chee doesn't become cold. With power in numbers.

"Please tell me what you can remember about what happened after Fen was, well, zombified."
>"I was a kid, and my memory was not very good! I remember being a mess of emotions, and took it out on the liches and undead of the region. Anything more complex was lost on me. Lily took me in for a time, until I joined with Zizi and Kiki against the undead."

Some time later, at the crags

"I still have a couple questions. Will I be in control, still?"
>"Yes, even if it may not have been my original plan! As long as this is truly happening, as long as you never quit, even if it takes another few hundred years, it does not matter to me."
"Would you lose your consciousness or anything? Also, wouldn't we be more powerful as seperates?"
>"In a sense, yes and no. My consciousness would dissipate into you, much like sugar into a drink. As for seperation of power, no. Should I merge with you, our magical prowess will stack nicely. In any case, don't worry about my well being! Having you, the construct in my image, consume my soul in a more permanent fashion, is the route to more normal a life than I could hope for."
"I... I guess so."
>"Then let us begin, and bring down the first god."
