[the start is a bit slow.]

They say the Hertford's Wizarding Academy is the best in the land. Being a Mage is a highly regarded position. I don't understand why-well, I guess White magic is useful. Black magic just seems needlessly dangerous and not useful. Despite my disinterest, my utter contempt, in fact, my parents are sending me off to learn magic instead of letting me get a normal job, and I hate it. But, when we arrive at the front gates, and are sent in, I can't help but feel in awe.

The halls are white, with bits of gold trimming. The main part is a large circle, with multiple staircases leading up to hallways. I could see kids in uniforms carrying books to classes. My mother lead me to a small table at the front. After talking a bit, the man sitting at the table handed me a form. I stared at it.

Name: Last: Sparrow First: Jack
Age: 18
Gender: M
Preferred Magic Type: White
Special Skills(If any): Militia training / Martial arts training. (I am assuming literacy is not a special skill but common enough, and that you have some natural talent at magic or you wouldn't be here).
Why Do You Deserve to Come Here: I am a hard worker who applies himself.

Thoughts (do NOT write this on form):
Well, if mother and father insist I will have to bear with it. but I might as well enjoy myself here... the most impressive thing about this place is just how expensive everything looks, this is wealth that rivals kings.
Magic might not seem all that useful to society but it certainly pays better than any other job I could ever hope for. For this kind of reward it would be worth the hard work.

White magic would be best because it provides combat support to allies, healing, profitable out of combat (be a rich doctor! many other money making uses), and self buffing (reinforce body, speed, etc). I can make money without fighting, and if I do fight it will allow me to augment my existing skills and training. Rather then slinging spells like a wuss I could improve my speed and power for martial combat. This goes great with being a combat gish who can attract cool companions... Companions like sexy black mage girls who do the nuking and depending on you for heals and buffs. Getting a girlfriend (or two, or more :P) is a priority.

Age 18, you have just come of age, finish basic schooling, and will be attending a mage college as an adult.

I hand the form back, and he nods, placing the paper with a small stack of others. "We'll send you our response at the end of the month. If you are accepted, you'll have a week to prepare things to come to the academy. You'll be entered along with all the other new accepted students. Thank you for applying, and have a nice day." My mother smiles and nods, and hurries me off. I can't help but feel a bit excited about the prospect of coming here.

As we walk down the hill towards the gates, I notice something out of the corner of my eye. It's white, circular. It looks to me like a... a mask. The nose of it is elongated, like a beak, but other than that nothing is noticible about it. I blink, and it's gone. I sigh, and listen to my mother drone on about what possibilities will open up to me if I become a Mage.
-|-|-|-
I stand in a small section of the academy's courtyard, just inside the gate, and stare at the crowds of other accepted students. I can see they range from various ages, and in fact I believe I see a few elves mixed in with the small bunches of people. I feel nervous-I've never been in such a large crowd. I look around, and notice the area where I saw the mask the last time I was here, where my gaze lingers just a moment. I lick my lips, and look around. I see a few smaller groups I could attempt to join in on, introduce myself, hopefully make some new friends, I have an introductory booklets about the school that I could read until we're herded inside, and I also have a few school given supplies I can look at, like my uniform and books, and I really don't know what to do.

I frown a bit. What to do?
>>
No. 306269 ID: 35e1a0

walk around the groups listening in on what they are saying until you find one that seems to have similar interests.
>>
No. 306279 ID: f0e3ae

well... your options are:
1. Read introductory booklet.
2. Socialize. Making friends is cool, and just because you are a woman doesn't mean you can't have a harem.
3. Ask someone that looks like a teacher about the white mask you saw... it sounds magical and maybe something cool can come out of it.

There isn't a discreet place to change into uniform and it can wait until you are at your room.
there is nothing to do with your general school supplies.

I suggest you start out by doing #3, then skim through the intro pamphlets to see if there is anything you should be preparing for (ex: a sorting ritual right off the bat). If there isn't then go talk to interesting looking people until you are called in... you will read the intro booklet in full at your room later on.
>>
No. 306286 ID: cf65c1

Yeah, don't waste effort on socializing until you know who all will be staying here--it isn't even guaranteed yet that you will so first thing we need to do is make an impression on the staff to make sure we will. Investigate the beak-mask dude and if that doesn't pan out get prepped by reading your introduction booklet and skimming the books.

I scan the crowd, trying to spot some kind of teacher. There doesn't seem to be anybody around that could be a teacher but... I turn my attention to the gate guard. He would know if anyone came in from the front, at least. They've got all sides under an incredibly eye, so I'm sure that if the guard here can't tell me, I can ask another guard later. I quickly walk over to the guard, and clear my throat, getting his attention. "Ahm, excuse me sir," he turns his head towards me. "Did you see anybody come in or leave wearing a mask at all during the past month or so?"

"Ahve see' a lotta mayskes comin' in an' outta here," he says. "You gonna hafta elaborate."

"It was white. Um, there was a part like a beak, sticking out."

"I cannae say ahve see' a mayske like tha', sorry girly." He says, and I nod in thanks. He turns back around, and I return to my original spot. So, the mask wearer either got in fromt the other sides, somehow, or it was someone who's already here. I sigh, and then pull out a few of the pamphlets, and start reading the opening.

"So, you've been welcomed into the wonderful Wizarding Academy, founded by the great High Mage Hubbard A. Hertford. At the school, you'll be introduced to the basics of magic, unless you already have a good grasp of the basics, and then you'll be free to pick the classes you're most interested in. Classes are split into seven fourty-five minute periods, starting at six in the morning. You'll have your choice of dealing with items, creating potions, and casting spells. The fourth period is for lunch. The rest of the day after schooling is free time. Saturdays and Sundays will be free days.

After the welcoming ceremony, you'll be placed in one of the dormitories located behind the main academy, where all classes are held. Dorms are seperated by age, and gender. Rooms will be shared with four people at the most, two at the least. There is a mandatory curfew of eleven thirty at night, however you may go to sleep whenever you like, as long as you attend classes on time.

School supplies will be paid for by the school, however if any are damaged you must pay for them at the end of your schooling career. They will be replaced every year, however..."

I stop reading. The school seems much more lax than I thought. I place the pamphlet back where it had been originally, and start walking by the groups of talking people, trying to get a glimpse of what they're talking about. Perhaps I can find something interesting...

The main talk I hear is about excitement of going, hopes about what the year will be like and such. Nothing to amazing. However, one bit I hear makes me pause for a minute. There's a rumor floating around, about some kind of item hidden in the school. I can't quite make out what they say, but I don't think they're talking about any kind of mask. Oh well. I continue on, and see a small group, of about five people.

I see two girls, one's an elf, and three guys. They're all smiles, and they seem like they've known each other for a long time. I start to go past, when the elf starts talking. "So I think I recognize what kind of mask that was," she says quietly, the group seems to grow solemn. I freeze. They saw it too? "It looked-well, it looked like one of those-" a loud ringing interrupts her words. Everyone looks towards the building, as the bell stops.

"Alrighty, the', time to go insi', kiddies!" The guard yells, and everyone starts moving forward. I get caught up in the crowd, and lose sight of the five. I curse to myself, and start trying to shift through the crowded throngs of kids, until I finally catch sight of the elf. I inch my way over to her, and start in step with her. After about a minute, I speak in as low a voice as I can, but to a point where she can still hear me.

"You saw the mask too?" That seems to grab her attention straight away, and she shifts her eyes towards me. She's really pretty, pale blond hair, the green eyes that all elves seem to share, and the tips of her ears seem to poke through her hair. Her skin has a slight blue tinge, common in elves.

"Yes. We all did. That's how we all started talking to each other. There was something upsetting about it, to me, anyway," she looks left for a second, and then starts looking straight again. "That kind, I've seen it before, actually. It's a Plauge Doctor's mask. I couldn't see a body attatched to it though, and neither could anyone else. Did you?" I shake my head no.

"Well, we'll have plenty of time to find out, I suppose," a smile relightens her face. "Nice to meet you! I'm Dellawyn Rol'vere." She stuck her hand out, and I took it. We shook.

"I'm Alyssa Suzuki, nice to meet you, too." After that, we make it inside, and are seated. After a few moments, everyone gets settled and quiet. A man, the headmaster, probably, takes the stage, wearing brown robes, a top hat, and a pipe stuck firmly in his mouth. I'd be surprised if he didn't have a monocle. He steps up in front of all the tables on a raised platform. He clears his throat.

"Before anyone asks, yes," he smiles. "I do have a monocle." I'm starting to think that this might not be so bad after all.
-|-|-|-
After that, we had a welcoming dinner, and got directed to our dormitories. At some point, Della and I got seperated in the process, but I'm sure I'll see her later. Our stuff is already in our rooms, and they've given us some free time, now, about an hour. I can go check out my room, see who I share a room with, and check out the rest of that pamphlet and see what classes I'll be able to choose, which we'll be doing tomorrow. I can go explore, possibly find Dellawyn, and maybe meet some other people, or I can talk to the eastern guard, who isn't too far away.

I look around. It isn't very dark, for how late it is. There are plenty people walking around. What am I going to do?

First meet the roommates, get settled in your room.
Then try to meet Dellawyn Rol'vere again, make a friend.
Then either make more friends or go back to your room and finish reading the pamphlets.

If you have more time, look through your schoolbooks for an "intro to magic" book and start reading.

I pick my stuff up, and start towards my dorm. The air is cool, but not cold enough for thick clothing. I can see the lighted windows of the dorm just a bit ahead. The building looks respectable, larger than my house. I start going faster, the excitement starting to get to me, when the air suddenly takes on a chill. It's too cold, and my arms pop with goosebumps. I stop. I can see my breath now, but as I look around, no one else seems to notice. I look above the my dorm, and see the mask again, and this time a body accompanied it. A hat was on his head, the top seemed to stop short of becoming a top hat. A hood kept the mask on, and robes consisted of the rest of his clothing. It's sleeve ends were buttoned, and out of the large openings were bony, gloved clad hands.

In his right hand was a sword. The hilt was scrawny, and obscured almost completely by his hand. The blade was thin, barely there and noticeble. He raised his arm slowly, pointing back towards the school. I turned my head, and saw his aim pointed at a window, with a wispy veil of white covering it, almost at the top of the school. I looked back, and we locked eyes. It seemed forever, the dull black sockets of his mask returning the look of my eyes. Finally, I felt a pressure on my shoulder, and everything seemed to dissipate. The air returned to normal, and I could no longer see the puffs of breath. I looked to where the touch had come from, and saw Della. "Are you okay? What," she paused, and looked at the roof, where there was no longer a figure. "What were you looking at?"

"The-The Plauge Doctor. He was up there, he had a body this time, too. And he was pointing," I turned around, and pointed at the window, that no longer had the white glow. She followed my finger. "Up there." There was a silence for a moment.

"Maybe there's something up there," she said hesitantly. "We can discuss it with the others later, at least. Speaking of which, you still need to meet them! Anyway, let's go get you settled into your room, and then we can go meet the others! What's your room number?" I pulled out my key, and read the number on it.

"Five-oh-two." Dellawyn seemed to consider this for a moment.

"I'm just down the hall, actually! And now that I think of it, that's Lexi's room! That's great! Oh, you guys are going to be such great friends!" She grabs my wrist, and starts pulling me along, acting like nothing had happened. We made it to the dorm, and she pulled me up the stairs. We stopped at the room, 502 printed boldy in gold, and then pushed inside. There were three beds lined up at the left most wall, two against each corner and one in the middle. Straight across from the bed on the right, was another bed in the corner on the right wall. The north wall had a window, and the southern wall had a closet on it.

One girl has black hair, short and messy. She has black lipstick on, and is wearing black clothing to match. The other girl is brown haired, pale hazel eyes, and a permanent blush on her cheeks. She's wearing a brown vest, with a green shirt underneath, and dark pants. I recognize her as the other girl from the group earlier, Lexi. "Oh, hi, Della!" Lexi smiles, showing near perfect teeth.

"Hey! This was the girl I was telling you about earlier, Alyssa. She's your roommate too," Lexi nods at me, and I return it. "So, who's this?" She gestures to the other girl.

"I'm Maria," she gives a small wave. "Nice to meet you." There's silence for a moment. I slowly start moving towards the untaken bed in the corner by itself. Della sits down on the other unoccupied bed, and the silence is finally broken by Lexi.

"Maria saw it too, the mask."

"It was just after we entered the school. It was standing in this corner. Looked pretty cool," she smiled. "I think the school's got itself a ghost."

"I don't think it really seems like a ghost," I say. "It's more powerful than one. The thing just radiates power." There's another silence.

"Hey, are we gonna go chum with the guys?" Della asks, suddenly.

"Nah," Lexi waves the suggestion off. "I'm pretty sure they're holding some party thing for themselves, they managed to all get the same room. We can just stay here, or something. We've still got plenty of time to do shit. Anyone got any suggestions?"

Something's up with that room he pointed towards... that white mist can't be good. Likely the spot of some future unfortunate happening, or something you need to see.

I am tempted to go there tonight... but getting kicked out by violating curfew on the first night seems like a bad idea.

You COULD get a teacher (a real teacher, not a guard), preferably one known for being more adventurous (ask older students) and tell them about how you all saw a ghost with a dead body pointing at said room and ask to show him/her the room...

Or you could do each other hair and talk about boys and do other girl stuff tonight then go to sleep and check it out tomorrow after class.

We start talking about stuff, learning more about each other in general, until Della has to leave. A few minutes after that, Lexi falls asleep, leaving just Maria and I. "So, what d' you think that mask does," she asks. "I think it's gotta be some kind of special relic, maybe cursed. Some unlucky peasent got it and's stuck with it." I think about it. It doesn't really seem like it's a relic. It really seems like it's just hiding something. An entity. Maybe it's something that can't breath the air, and it wears that? I can't really explain what I'm trying to say here.

"I think it's more than that, that maybe," I pause. "Maybe it's its own intelligence. I don't know." She nods slowly. A beat of silence.

"So, do you have your classes picked out for when you're done with Basic?" She questions. "I got all my Black magics picked out. I can't wait to start."

"No, I don't. I think I might look at it before I go to sleep," I say, and she nods again. "So, what's tomorrow gonna be like? Is it just that tour, and then we get to officially pick 'em out?"

"I'm pretty sure, yeah. Tomorrow's also the first day we have to wear our uniforms," she looks out the window. "Alright, I think I'm gonna turn in. See you in the mornin'." She slips under the covers, quickly shedding her boots. After a few moments of sitting, I pick out the small pamphlet of classes.

White Magic Classes:

Herbology
Requirement: Herbology 101-Basic training in making basic potions with herbs. Will be learned in Basic Magic.

Afflictions-More focus on the status afflictions aspect of herbology, things like paralyzing and poison potions.

Spells
Requirment: Spellcasting 101-Basic training in using wands and casting spells. Will be learned in Basic Magic.

Holy-Special class intent on teach the strongest White magic spell, Holy. Only for students adept at White Magic. Holy both Heal and Damage, depending on intent.

Quite a selection, I suppose. I start to wonder about the class for Holy. How strong could a spell be that an entire class needs to be spent on it? Oh well. I close the pamphlet, and slip into the bed. Today was a long day, but at least now I can get some rest. I think about the window that the Plauge Doctor was pointing towards. Hopefully I can check that out at some point. I close my eyes. Tomorrow'll be the start of my life as a Mage.

-|-|-|-

Five figures sit in a circle. The High Mage, the Scoundrel of Shade, the King of Beasts, the Psychopomp of Gods, and the Timeless One. Between them sits a small ember, held by magic. It's golden bronze glow is the only light. "So, this is where it all ends, then?" The Scoundrel asks. The Timeless One nods.

"Tis how it must be. This is for all times, however, we musn't forget. The Past, the Present, the Future. Whatever happens, this is for everyone and everything." The is a solemn silence after that.

"Let's get on with it, then." The High Mage says. And the ember glows brighter.

-D|-A|-Y|-1

The tour guide leads us all through the hallways, his voice boring and uninteresting. He makes it hard to pay attention, but I get the gist of where everything important is. I told the other girls about the dream I had last night. I think it has to do with the Plauge Doctor, but I can't be entirely sure. They aren't really sure about anything either.

As we're standing outside the Herb lab, the chill from last night fills the hallway. I turn my head to the others. They don't even look like they feel anything. "D-Do you guys feel how cold it is?" The look at me, confused, and suddenly everything stops, even them. I look around, shivering, and see the Doctor. It bows, and then motions to a small hallway, containing the same white veil as before. It waits patiently for me to go forward, and I do, ascending the steps of the hallway slowly.

It waits at the bottom, holding it's sabre. I let out a breath, and continue on. So, this stairway leads to that room? I was going to find out, at least. Getting to the top of the steps, there's a door, covered in milky white. I grab the knob, and push the door in, entering. It... looks more like an attic than anything. Boxes are piled on top of things, and cob webs are strung together from everything. I step inside, hesitantly.

I can see the window that was motioned to yesterday. As I step around some boxes, I see two things still in the blanket of white. A small box, laying on the floor, and something large, and covered in a tarp. I bend over and pick of the box, opening it slowly. Inside is a necklace, a piece of quartz hanging from it. I turn my attention to the tarp covered object, and walk up to it. What could this even be?

I can see the Doctor in me peripheral vision. I bite my bottom lip, as he motions to take down the tarp. I let out a shaky sigh, and slip the necklace on so I can grip the fabric with both my hands. I tug, and the thing comes down, landing with a soft thump. The large object is a mirror, circular, old and brown. I can see myself, but not the Plauge Doctor. I step forward, and reach out, touching my fingertips to it. All at once, a fizzy feeling burns through my body, and my tounge suddenly feels like leather. I drop to my knees, and now my reflection is acting different from me. I can feel it gripping my wrist, it's hand coming through the glass.

"Welcome to my world." She pulls, and steps out. My face flies towards the glass, and then my vision goes dark.

|-|-|-|

I dust myself off. This attic is unbelievable dusty. I look around, and notice how different this is on this side. The other one was bright, clean. That Plauge Doctor isn't here anymore either. I look back at the mirror. I look like her now. I frown a bit, but I'm not that mad. It'll help me blend in more. I start for the stairs. I'm going to need to think of a story to tell the others, about why I was just suddenly gone. Hm.
