CHAPTER 2

The metal arm has a firm grasp on my scarf! A figure comes into the light from this room. A single glowing eye pierces the darkness, the rest of his form remains shrouded.

"Do you truly seek this island's destruction Demon Girl? Answer quickly before I decide to just kill you here."

>"Urk, y-yes!" I struggle against his grip.

"Why would a Tanuki want to destroy Onigashima?"

>"I come... from the land below. My clan... my village... have been ravaged by the demons pouring forth from this island."

"And you came alone?"

>"Y-yes."

"Your goal is admirable. But you will fail. A single infiltrator cannot succeed where many have failed."

>"Th-then I'll die trying!"

Ask it if it has a plan, and if it needs help escaping from... wherever it is, though considering it just punched through the glass it probably doesn't.

Also ask it if it knows of an Irregular Hunter named X.

I quickly back away from the window.

>"And h-how do you intend to help? Especially since you're sealed up over there?"

"I, most likely, have much better knowledge of this island's layout than you do. If you have found a PDA, like I mentioned, I can upload to you what I have managed to map out. Additionally, the architects here have arranged some doors so that they require somewhat... unorthodox methods of opening to confound intruders. For instance, some doors are operated by control panels in different sectors, such as the Warehouse District or the Factory District. As you can see, it would be difficult for a single person to manage to make their way through the facility on their own."

>"Do you have some kind of plan?"

"My plan is simple. Make my way to the engine room, that controls the flight mechanism for the island, and blow it up, sending a chain reaction through the island that will obliterate it and send what's left plummeting to the bottom of the ocean. Should you accept my aid, I would advance through the Factory while you advance through the Warehouse, meeting up in the Castle Garden District, ideally."

It doesn't exactly seem to be sealed back there, exactly, considering the way it just smashed through part of the window it could probably clear out the rest of it. Still, while we don't know much at all about this guy or his intent and motivations, he's got more of a plan how to take this place down than you do, and for the moment your interests align. So while you shouldn't trust him with your life, you've got no better plans at the moment as to how to take down the island, so let's do what he's got planned. For now.

"Have you found any manner of communications device while exploring yet?"

>"I've found this CELL PHONE."

"That will be sufficient. I will be able to contact that device once you give me the number."

I click through the phone's menus and find it's phone number and give it to Manewis.

>"I assume that means you aren't the one who's been sending me helpful text messages?"

"Helpful text messages? No. I haven't been doing any such thing. Perhaps someone from my squad is still hiding on the island?"

I am the Mark 4 Ninjutsu Operations Bionic Infiltrator, designation "Manewis." I am, to my knowledge, the sole survivor of Momotaro Unit, a special infiltration unit tasked with entering Onigashima and destroying it from the inside. My role was Fire Support. I am equipped with a COLLAPSIBLE NAGINATA, a forearm mounted KUNAI LAUNCHER, Shoulder mounted SHURIKEN LAUNCHERS, SHORT RANGE TELEPORTER, PERSONAL CLOAKING SYSTEM, on board MAP, and COMMUNICATION SUITE. Our mission was not successful. 100 years ago this room was to be our last stand, but through the prolonged fighting, I found my POWER CELL depleted, and was forced to enter a dormant mode to conserve power. I was unable to help Yamazaru, Inu, and Kiji as the demons broke in.

>>271944
I am not equipped with a suit. I am an android designed to assist my human squad mates in their tasks.

>>271982
Perhaps Momotaro Sensei still lives? He stayed behind to buy us time to make our escape. I remind the Tanuki to locate a PDA and attempt to contact me again upon obtaining one.

>>271936
>>271945
The bodies are of my former comrades, Yamazaru, Inu, and Kiji. Any useful equipment they at one time possessed has been expended in fending off the hordes of demons that were once within these walls. The room extends further ending in a breach created by the demons. The door was welded shut long ago and has not functioned since.

Correction, there has only been one of me. The other members of Momotaro unit were humans. I was assigned to the unit to assist them in the completion of their mission. There were more than five of us in the initial assault on the island.

>>272099
This POWER CELL is about 50% depleted. A replacement should indeed be located and has been added to the OBJECTIVE LIST. The FACTORY DISTRICT, which I am in, should undoubtedly have POWER CELLS or RECHARGERS located within.

>>272142
My POWER CELL did not "re-up itself." The Tanuki assisted me through the use of the crane arm, taking the POWER CELL from this Demon automaton here. He will not be needing it anyway.

My ammunition is low, but I still possess; 15 Kunai
5 Shuriken bursts (Shuriken fire in bursts of 6, 3 from each launcher)

>>272292
All of my systems seem to be operational. My SHORT RANGE TELEPORTER allows me to make short jumps of roughly 5 feet at a time and is capable of 3 sustained jumps before requiring recharge. Excessive use of the TELEPORTER or PERSONAL CLOAK will increase the drain on my POWER CELL requiring it to be recharged or replaced sooner. Should a mishap occur and I find a wall or solid object in my teleport destination, the object, and the portion of my body will obliterate eachother.

Where'd the crane go? Also, when you teleport, can you carry an item with you? Could you use this item to purposefully intersect it into an enemy to obliterate both? Like, pick up a pipe and teleport right next to someone holding it out so that it intersects with the enemy's body.

Momotaro Sensei is a great warrior. Before being assigned to our squad, Inu, Yamazaru, and Kiji could not get along. It was difficult to make it through even the simplest tasks with the three of them at eachother's throats. Momotaro Sensei stepped forth, volunteering to take our unit under his wing and taught my former comrades the true meaning of teamwork and friendship. They remembered his teachings to the very end... His sword seems at first glance like an ordinary blade, but in his hands he was able to slay the most fearsome and invincible beast with only a few swings. I still do not know how he was capable of accomplishing these feats, but I hope to one day make him proud and follow in his footsteps.

The platforms appear to be attached to a vertical belt. They are currently retracted into a housing in the back wall to accommodate the conveyor belt above me and not active. The conveyor above looks like it can retract into the platform up there, there must be a control for that somewhere nearby. I am capable of jumping roughly my own height without teleporting, however, I am incapable of the WALL JUMP technique. Conserving my POWERCELL does, indeed, seem like a logical idea. [i]The scarf is a limiter installed into all N.O.B.I. units after the Mark 2's to get around an inherent flaw in the original designs that caused fatal overheating and power drain. The limiter keeps our heat and power draw on our POWER CELLS in check. Without it, our POWER CELLS run the risk of overheating resulting in a catastrophic explosion. The length of the scarf extended is the amount of power being allowed to flow by the limiter. When it is extended I am able to move quicker and hit harder, but if a combat goes to long, my POWER CELL will begin to deplete.

Disregard that; I have consulted a qualified martial artist.

Move your left foot to the inside of her right leg.
Bring your left arm up from below to grab the weapon between her hands - the closer to the left hand the better.
Move your left shoulder back against her while pushing the end away from you, then pivot the weapon over the blade to break her grip on the weapon and move it away.
Since she's blinded it'll take too long for her to realize what's going on in order to counter it before it's too late.

Except that Manewis is using his left arm to manipulate the scarf, and this method of disarming relies upon Musashi's joints having ordinary human limits. And if they DON'T, it leaves her in perfect position to just yank back on the shaft and drive the blade up into Manewis' hip.

The scarf is wrapped around her head and would require effort to dislodge.
Disarming her is of significant tactical advantage.
Her joints are irrelevant, as the joints aren't going to be forced out of a normal range of motion. It's forcing her to cross her arms so that the arms keep each other from being able to move to keep her grip.

And that, with how much bigger Manewis is than her, she would feel him stepping around her leg to get his body into position, right? Regardless of being 'blind' or not, right?

Manewis would have a better chance of getting the weapon by just letting go of the scarf, grabbing the haft with his left hand, and kicking her in the side to hope to dislodge her single-hand grip.

Guh, it's like that guy's never texted on a phone before. Also, the hand, while useless for texting, or doing pretty much anything nimble, while in this form do have their perks. I've discovered that while posing as the DAY MANAGER, I have SUPERIOR STRENGTH and can move heavy objects I'd never be able to budge otherwise. Also, if I pose as KINTARO, he seemed to have pretty high DEMONIC CLEARANCE, being the janitor and all, also, I found out that I can shoot webbing from my butt as him to grapple up vertical shafts, or swing across gaps. He can even walk on some walls.

But anyway. Ok, I'm in the WATER WORKS. The guy on the texts said something about meeting soon while I was on my way here. Not sure what he has in store so I'm not letting my guard down, like Manewis said. I dropped down from the shaft above and it looks like there's three ways I can go here. I back track to the hub room and head down the lower right path. There are more pipes here. Water can be heard rushing through them, along with a strange, faint, crackling sound coming from somewhere.

He's either saved you from a trap, or has a talent that lets him generate walls of force that can slice through anything that's caught in them.
