Artemis manages to buy a small water skin. He goes back to the castle and waits for Maggie to return. She pops up about ten minutes late.

"Okay group! Here's the deal, we have to go and meet this spy dude at Ran Tersof the Tigerfolk land. However it'll be tricky... We 'can' take the dragon shrine and get there quickly but they may be watching that. 'They' being the Tigerfolk militia. OR we can walk there but that'll take longer and we could get attacked along the way. What do you guys think?"

he quickly grabs his staff and crawls out of the tent. Outside he sees Kal fighting off some monster.
The beast itself seems to almost blend into the darkness. Kal manages to get a good hit in with the sword he is wielding. Suddenly the creature closes in and grabs him.
Artemis sees the monster bite Kal in the neck, he lets out a yelp in pain and shock.

He slams into the beast knocking it back.

Kal attacks the creature as Artemis casts a Fire spell on the put out camp fire. It burns brightly but any light near the creature seems to be smothered by some kind of aura.
Kal pulls out a long sword and hits the creature in the abdomen. It falls to the ground and hisses at them.
Artemis keeps his staff pointed at it while yelling for Maggie and Em to help them.
There's still no reply from them.

Maggie yawns and pulls the sheet around her. She steps out of the tent and sees Kal and the creature fighting.

"Yes, I did. That was a Shade, Artemis. They're basically a virus. They take over a persons body and control them from the inside and out. No cure. Letting him live would've not only put us in danger but would've just made him suffer more. We're supposed to kill them and anyone who has the shade illness on sight."

She stares at Artemis, his head is pounding now.
When she speaks her voice is cold.

It's the first time they've really talked to each other. Artemis tells Mimi more about his life while Mimi talks about her likes and dislikes. She enjoys reading stories where the character has to overcome impossible odds, her favorite tale so far was Nor Illmiid a story about a orphan who eventually found a family to love him.
She doesn't answer many questions about her past and personal life though.
Soon morning comes. Kal walks up to Artemis.

"Artum, can you check the wound for me...? It has been over 5 hours. If there are blue lines coming from the bite wound then I am infected. If not... Well I dodge a blow."

He shakes Artemis's hand. Maggie has already packed up camp and calls the rest of the group together. She informs them that they'll be setting out again and should reach there by the end of the day. Everyone packs up and they head out.

Sweet, we got a new power! More precise than gravity and usable when female.

And sorry Artemis that was our fault for hesitating there too. But I don't think any amount of fireballs or gravity magic would have saved Izzy, at best the shade would have crushed her before dropping letting go. Even so we should make a point to light up monsters rather than delay in the attack from now on. Most of our friends won't have the convenience of being reborn and if we still can't save them it's more comforting to know we really did everything we could.

Enough about dying, let's get to living! "Go out with a hot chick" sounds like a good time to me. Socializing is the key to get more powers anyways.

Oh, then tell her that what happened probably a blow-out from adding too much mana too fast, which resulted in an imbalance that caused a mana explosion. That might be solved by creating a mana pipe to limit the flow to a fixed amount, keeping the feather chilled, and rotating it slowly to ensure even coverage.
