Liam isn't moving. Could be dead. I'm not feeling so hot myself. We both got hit by those little darts the skull was shooting. I can barely sit up, I feel kinda... tired and nauseous. I'd get something from my medicine bag but something tells me that for the first time in a long time, rum won't help me.

The agudner's hammer might come in useful. Better for narrow corridors than my Halberd is.

I shake the canary a few times but he doesn't respond. I don't think pulling out a feather will do anything.

He's still warm. It's possible that without his hat, the source of his powers, he's fallen into some sort of adorable bird coma.

Heh, I kid.

>>119563
I don't know if this is a good idea. I could, but Liam's artifacts and stuff kind of EXPLODE when not used exactly right. Or at least, that's what I've been told. Pushing the wrong part of something can kill you with those things. I think. I really know nothing about them, and honestly, they sort of scare me.

I could poke around in his messenger bag but I've got to be really careful if I do so.

Anyways, I should get him out of the open before I do anything else. Where should we go? I don't know what is in any of the rooms.

I go downstairs and... I don't like this. The entire area is light up as well as some yellow spinning lights on the ceiling.

I really, really don't like this. I've never seen ruins lit up like this.

I'm... scared.

This place is alive. The walls are humming. This place is filled to the brim with magi-no, technology. If the zess, the nevrean and the agudner can use this "technology" to summon skulls and rifles and make their faces appear in glass and cause Liam to sleep this deeply...

I don't know. They can probably do anything they want. If they wanted to kill me, I probably wouldn't be able to stop them...

If these Agudner are here and the Zess and the Nevrean are letting them walk about freely, they're probably allies, which... would make them both enemies of mine. Liam is probably the only reason that red one opened the door, had it been just me I'd probably have been left to starve. Now I'm probably only "safe" so long as Liam is with me, and even then, if one of them gets a clear shot...

I should have never come here. Well, there was no way of knowing they'd be here and this place would be like this...

I hope the rest of my tribe didn't take this detour. If they did, they're already dead. Alh Mene! Ikar and Little One were supposed to follow us here...

...I hope for their sakes that door at the entrance is still closed and Ikar knows her way back to the fort. She probably does. No, she has to, I've taught her how to get there, she knows the way, there's no way she won't be there waiting for me when I get out of this place.

If I get out of this place. I just hope she can forgive me if I don't.

I go and get the head of that agudner I killed so that I can use her blood to draw on Liam.

I thought about drawing silly things but then part of me decided to draw the eyes of death all over him instead.

I kinda like the one in the middle, it's even yellow, so it's like a true eye of death.

>>128086

>>128069
Okay, I understood about half of that and I'd need Liam's help with that in the first place. I can't read. He'd have to tell me which bottles were which if they were labeled in script. All I know how to do is read/write my name, some other people's names and a few other things and that's, well, just out of memorization. Like "My name looks like this" or "the word for "Whiskey" looks like this..."

It should be whisky damn it. Whiskey is a waste of good alcohol, they could just have made it into vodka instead.

Anyway, that makes it all the more important that you let him wake up. Without him to help you out you're pretty much fucked down there. So find a nice cozy and relatively safe place, put Liam down, snack a bit on some part of the dead agudner and wait for him to wake up. The tranq wasn't enough to bring you down so he should have sleept it off in a few hours.

Nice drawings by the way, they make him look alot more badass. You should convince him to get a proper tattoo of the eye of death once you get out of there. I think it would fit him, he may not be like a Sergal when it comes to killing stuff but he is still quite willing to do what it takes and get his hands bloody if it comes to that.

They've got a decent amount of meat, I mean, you can imagine the size of the drumsticks on these guys.

>Find a bucket of water somewhere and see if that wakes Liam up. If that doesn't help, uh... Prick his fingers. Pain might wake him.
I think time is going to work best here, it shouldn't be much longer. The last liquid I encountered down here was that white stuff, no telling what sort of unholy poison-water lurks in whatever buckets we might find here.

Probably because he doesn't want you to kill Liam. Still, I don't trust him either. I'd be wary of "something" waiting for you whenever you get to his location.

Then again, you're probably already wary anyway, seeing as this place unsettles you pretty bad.

Sounds like a trap, but it's kinda safe to assume he'll help you as long you got a pawn like Liam against him.
He'll also kill you without remorse, given the chance. So don't trust him more than you absolutely have to.
Ask him about the other Sergals that might be in the ruins and try to include them in your deal if there are survivors.

Except for that wait for Liam to wake up, don't go further into the ruins before you had a chance to talk with him.
Regarding Liam, how much of a friend is he? Informing him 'bout his new status as hostage might be good or bad, depending on his loyalties.

On interrogating, well, you gotta hurt them enough to where they want you to stop, but haven't given up the hope of living yet. Or hurt them enough to where they beg you to kill them, and say you'll only kill them when they tell you what you want, quick and easy compared to the hell they're going through now. Sometimes they're a stubborn bitch and won't talk, so you have to make an example of them. Like that merchant.

I'm not going to eat her. That's disgusting.

Okay, technically that's a practice of a culture other than my own which I technically should not hold judgement upon because of my own practices of neutrality, but it's still disgusting.

I didn't think it was possible for peepy little bird children to cry this ear-piercingly loud, and I don't know how to get her to stop that doesn't involve a form of violence.

On top of that, this little sharp-toothed assbiter under my foot needs to be restrained, and I can't do that without putting down the nevrean.

Who is also an assbiter.

Wait, we're in your head now?

You were pretty lax on the restraints they were in. I pray one of you actually knows how to tie someone's hands together. Also tie the legs together so they can't run. Taking away someone's vision through blindfold or bag over head is one of the best ways to discourage resistance or escape attempts. If they can't see what they are doing they have next to no chance of succeeding and they know that.

Really those three things, hands, legs, and vision, are enough to stop any normal person from escaping.

About the biting thing tell them that if they do that again they will get a muzzle and a sound beating. With those other steps biting you won't accomplish anything other than pissing you off.

If they behave do a bit extra to be nice to them. Warm food and fresh water. Handling them gently. Letting them walk instead of being carried. Putting a small bit of effort into keeping them cooperative saves a lot of effort because they aren't fighting you every step of the way.

If they don't behave you can put a bit of effort into making that choice undesirable. They don't need any food for at least 7 days. It's not going to hurt them if you drop them from shoulder height or drag them a few feet. If one behaves and the other doesn't it's very clear to both of them who is being treated better. It's real incentive to stop pointless defiance.

Good luck. I hope the tips help.

Hey, wait a second. Hat... The bird's clothing can be torn into two strips down the middle and used as makeshift rope. I'm 100% honest when I say this is because it works and not because I want her naked. Give it a few wraps and it should hold as well as rope. Until you get that ready, tie the Sergal's hands and sit on her to keep her still (face down. Don't want to get your ass bitten again).

The bird might not even need to be restrained. She's a weak coward. Threaten to hurt the Sergal unless she behaves. She's got a weak spot for friends. It's rather nice that you only have to control one of them to subdue them both.

Good luck with that. Also should mention that a few gut punches really take the fight out of someone.

Alright, alright, I'll rip off my sleeves and tie her up with those if I can't convince her to come willingly.

"I'm not going to hurt either one of you."

"But you already hurt Hatch!"

Funny. She never mentions the black eye I gave her or the gut punch she took when I subdued her the first time after she tried to attack Jingles. Nor does she admit it if I'm hurting her now.

"I didn't hurt her. I just put her to sleep. I need to take you both back to Jingles."

"The martial arts flower?"

I... Juh... What? He doesn't practice martial arts. He's a Rowna and he wears a robe.

I think it's a He anyways. He's never corrected me on it if I'm wrong though.

"Um... Yes..."

"He hurt Hatch too!"

(You are now controlling Ikar.)

"Jingles is my mentor, you see." She tells me. "He is very wise, and much older than you or me. His kind live for centuries, and the very eldest of them can become oracles, after years of practice. Jingles believes he has attained that goal, as he recently received a vision that in some way, related to your friend and her father. He admits that his vision might not be perfect, but as one who holds order in high regard, as I do, it deeply disturbed him."

"What was it a vision of?"

"He hasn't given me a very detailed description, but I think it's a complicated matter. Chaos. Anarchy. Violence. In this area and soon, if it hasn't happened already, and your friend and her father may play a key role in this."

"Hatch wouldn't do that, though!" I say, "She's too nice to do something like that!"

"Maybe it happens by accident." she says, and I growl as she presses her heel into the side of my head a bit. "That's why you two and he need to talk."

Cave in to demands or else she is going to choke you until you go limp.

Ask her personal questions to try and get on her good side. Alternately, ask for more details about the vision. Point out that a vision that's so vague as to simply say 'these guys have something to do with something' is pretty much meaningless.

Why are you tearing up your own clothing? Bird and Sergal are the prisoners. If anyone should be making accommodations it's them.

so yeah. 3 point thing on Ms. Sergal. Wrists together behind back. Legs together just above the knees. Ankles together.

Don't worry about the bird. As long as you have control over the Sergal you can use her as a hostage to get the bird to do whatever you want.

For simplicity's sake let's pretend that I went through the detailed instructions of how bind someone's hands and it's not going to come undone. If it's done right they aren't going to get out. I don't know if even dislocating your thumbs would let you escape from it.

"Well... Hmm. For running out here when she probably needs me the most.

But I can't take it anymore... She's too small. She probably won't survive this winter. We haven't expected her to. My message is still undelivered.

Little One is still somewhere out in the wilderness running around with Ikar, who I just pray knows how to navigate the wilderness as well as Aruuchi thinks and I really pray didn't see the message we left for them and wandered in here too.

Alh mene, I hate this situation. She was supposed to be safer coming along with me and now I've got to just hope another four year old can protect her. We've had our ups and downs and sure, it was a little rocky at first but I'd say we've been a perfect little family ever since that night. Dammit... I hope she's alright.

I groan. I can hear a soft thumping, but I can't tell if it's an actual noise in the distance or just part of this blistering headache I have.

But in all seriousness I think Aruuchi likes you enough to not involve you in something that would probably result in you getting mangled somehow, so you probably don't have to worry about that particular problem.

I also don't really know what you should be doing right now. I mean, like >>227322 points out, it'd probably be quite a bad idea to just go out into this place on your own, so, technically, as long as you're waiting on Aruuchi, I mean...

It's not a safe. It's like a cabinet, it just opens with a pull. There's a big metal red thing in here.

Well, apart from going and seeing things I'll probably wish I could unsee later, we can either talk with this guy here or just flat out wait until, well, the others are done.

Or play with this thing.

Well uh, the things to the left aren't actually instructions, they're a bunch of these little card things that read "EMERGENCY ACCESS" on them. After that there's just a bunch of personal information featuring places I don't recognize and an... expiration date that expires about three hundred years ago.

I don't really know what to think about that. This stuff in here is old and broken, sure, but it doesn't look that old or broken. I mean, a lot of the metals down here haven't rusted at all.

On the back of the card there's a black strip.

The big metal red thing is really heavy and seems like it's stuck in there. I don't really want to lug it around even if I can get it out.

If you have anything magnetic on you, a lodestone or rare earth magnet of some sort, keep the card well away from it. The black strip on the card is sensitive to magnets. In fact it carries information magnetically encoded on it. If you move the card too close to a magnet you'll blank out the information.

A device to decode the data on the magnetic strip on the card is usually called a card reader. In this case the card reader will be hooked up to a lock. The card's data has the key-code for that lock.

The red thing is a fire extinguisher. It's a pressurized container with a second pressurized container inside. Both containers hold chemicals. By using the handle on the extinguisher you can break the inside container and make it react. The chemicals will spray out the hose and put out fires by starving the fire for air and cooling it down quickly.

It may not work. Chemicals go inert over time. It will make a great blunt weapon though, if you're strong enough to lift it.

The dark boxes are made to connect to each other and join the wires. Try joining the boxes together with same-colored wires.

The red one is clearly damaged. Try and thread the red wires into the openings on the dangling pair of connected boxes. Be VERY careful not to touch the exposed copper, as it could shock or burn you.

After this, close the panels again and try the card.

"Fine then. Aruuchi, please back up. And Dekustir, after all thats happened recently can you honestly expect me to TRUST YOU? If not for Aruuchi, I'd probably be DEAD. You and your little flying skulls could have KILLED ME. And you honestly expect me to be able to TRUST YOU? How am I to know you simply wont shoot me when my back is turned? How about you PUT THE GUN DOWN, and THEN we can talk?" If he doesn't put the gun down, blast him. He has shown he can't be trusted.

And remember, the sooner you get out of here, the sooner you can go back to finding your daughter.

I tell Aruuchi to wait outside and hand my bag to him, sweetness still behind my back. Dekustir lowers his gun but doesn't put it away.

"Dekustir..." I tell him, "How can I trust you? If it weren't for Aruuchi I could have been killed by your little skull-things! I could ha-"

"You COULD have never come across these ruins at all, though coming down here might have saved your life. Radou told me to kill you, but all I really needed to do was delay you, time enough for our messenger to reach the fort first."

"Other... messenger?"

"We have a plan, Liam. A plan wrought out of necessity. Tell me, Liam." He leans in close, and whispers to me, "What do you think of the Shigu clan?"

"First tell me what the plan is."

"The plan is simple. We sent a messenger the same morning you left to the nearby Clan Shigu fort, with a list of forged signatures of our town's leaders saying that our town is declaring war on the Shigu Clan. Do you know who is currently staying at that fort to nurse her injuries?"

"I... No..."

"The Brutal General herself, Liam. While she sends her forces to make an example of our town, as those savages so love to do, myself and the other researchers will be heading up to the fort with a slew of the fully automatic weapons we've found down here. She is the glue holding that empire together, Liam, without her they'll go back to fighting amongst themselves, never more threatening than a roaming band of raiders from time to time. Now, I can not give any guarantees but I can try to get your family out safely, if you swear allegiance to me now..."

Fact is, you can either have Little One grow up part of a free people, with rights as a real citizen and free of the fear of being eaten by monstrous sergals, or you can have her grow up as a slave to an evil empire, living every day in terror that she'll be eaten, violated, killed, or otherwise harmed by her cruel masters that know nothing of love or gentleness.

What are you willing to give up for your daughter, Liam? Are you willing to sacrifice Aruuchi? Are you willing to sacrifice his friends? Are you willing to sacrifice your own life?

It's time to make a choice, Liam.
>>

Ultimately screw the dudes you don't know Liam. Sticking with Shigu might be evil in the long run, but probably ensures the survival of you and your kid.
Quickly kill Dekustir though, that's more merciful than having him a prisoner of the Sergals.

Maybe you can try to reach Rain before she makes an example of the nevreans and present her the original dokuments together with an explanation. Sergals are pretty fast and could easily carry you there.

If we do have to off this guy, we'll have to put him at a disadvantage. He has a shotgun, Liam has a pistol, and one of these has a lot more forgiveness at hitting a target at close range. Ask him how he expects us to accomplish this, maybe he can provide us something to level the playing field. To either fight if need be if you do expect to carry out a sergal slaughter.
>>
No. 257554 ID: bf1e7e

>She'd probably survive.

If we're being realistic, we should probably keep in mind that All support she could hope to reach nearby is going to be slaughtered by Sergals just by virtue of the war declaration message going through. Any survivors will be hunted down out of vengeance.

There isn't going to be any 'free people, with rights as a real citizen and free of the fear of being eaten by monstrous sergals,' because everyone will be slaughtered by the sergals immediately if this plan goes through.
>>
No. 257558 ID: 80bb9a

They won't be 'slaughtered immediately', there'll be a war. There are always wars after power shifts, that's why you set someone up to take over who can stop it. Dekustir apparently hasn't planned that far ahead, but it's better than nothing. Even if Liam dies, at least he's guaranteeing a better future in the long run.

>They won't be 'slaughtered immediately', there'll be a war.

In what magical fantasy land do they have the forces to fight a war? Their town is going to be 'made an example of' by virtue of being completely butchered. The fact that their town is apparently completely sovereign means that there is no real heirarchy or connection between the various Nevrean Towns, which means that an angry retaliation will literally sweep across their lands before they even have a chance to organize some sort of resistance.

Best for the nevreans to shoot Dekustir and try to stop the 'example' from being made.

Ok, so I agree that we need him to die, but I don't think that Liam will be able to fatally wound him so quickly that he won't be able to retaliate. We're not Vash the Stampede.

Obviously he doesn't have a camera on the area right outside his door because he was surprised that Aruuchi came with you. Suggestion: "Agree" that he is right (sound convincing) and ask him for his gun, because you don't have enough ammo for all of them.
When you leave, immediately and silently motion to arruchi that dekustir needs to die--point at him and draw a finger across your neck, then roll it to tell him to play along. Say something out loud like "Hey, he's got a plan. We need to get moving, so go get the others." Wait a moment, then fire the gun in the air (or yours, if you don't manage to get his) and have aruuchi crouch next to the door. Call for Dekustir and tell him something doesn't look right about this one, and quickly, before the others hear and come looking for him. As soon (or a little sooner) before he pokes his head out, have Aruuchi CAPTURE him.

CAPTURE. We need to interrogate him, and I think the sergals might be good at this, and find out what he knows and what's happened. Also, tell Aruuchi of this devious plan hatched by these birds and that you'll need a sergal to vouch for you, should you get a chance to beg for mercy for your town and daughter.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, we still need a time-jump, and an excuse for the orphan nevrean and sergal to spend years in a mountain retreat honing psychic powers and an unorthodox but incredibly lethal fighting style, respectively. So, I guess by DM Fiat fate you'll just have to die here or kill all your friends and doom your family/town/life forever.

nope, there are plenty of sergals left here to do the interrogating and to dispatch a hunting team.

but I seriously don't see a way out of here without tragedy striking somehow. we're not going to be able to fix this, the sergals and nevreans will go to war, and hatch and ikar are going to be the only pair of the two races who actually like each other.

at least, I think that's how it's going to go down.
