Hurts. For the first time in a long time, I feel pain. Fire throughout my body, in my mind, in a soul I never believed to exist. Burning and purging and turning everything to ash. The fire is not like the cold embrace of Death. Where it is soft, the fire is harsh. Where it is clean, the fire scars and scorches. Where it is quiet, the fire bubbles, crackles, and snaps.

And then the fire is blown away. The smoke that choked my lungs is gone from them. The stinging in my eyes vanishes. And a presence vanishes, unseen until its departure.

My eyes remain closed, but I can still hear.

"...And I am telling you, crazy shiny lady, that he will be fine."

"HE WAS SLICED IN HALF!"

"Ha. I hope for your sake you can find that."

"I, but... what?"

"Look, he's gonna be mighty cranky if he wakes up like this."
A mumble of agreement to my immediate left. "I mean, seriously, all you did was gawk at him and mutter! For shame, Brightsworn. For shame."
Another murmur of agreement.

"N-now look here! I had just spent most of my power to assault the Clownsworn!"

"Who you lost against."

"Silence, you insipid little insect!"

"Ouch. That hurt more than it's supposed to. Can we stop fighting and find my lower bits? I would rather like to get sewn back together now."
I blink awake and sigh. It takes a lot more effort than I thought to speak.
Anansi, who sits on the sheets of my bed, Ella, to my left, and Arryn, who is out of her armor (and in white and gold robes) for once, to my right.

"My men are trying to find them." she says. After you passed out, several Mongrels who managed to hide near the city gates ran off with them."

Ella sighs, then gives me a knowing look.

"Incompetent paper pusher."

"Lazy trickster."

Oh god, what are they doing with our lower bits? Hattori, can you feel anything remotely? Some environmental cues could help.

In the meantime, what kind of condition do new parts need to be in for replacement? If someone has recently died we might be able to avoid having someone carry us around.

We do need to get moving, though.

In order for me to consider body parts mine, they need to be attatched for three days. I don't have that sort of time.

I am unharmed from the waist up. Anansi and Arryn continue to sling insults back and forth.

"Would the both of you cease acting like children and help me!" I roar in frustration. "My legs are somewhere southeast of here. Go out and occupy yourselves in finding them." I mutter, turning over to sleep. "I'll even lend you Legion."

Ah! Um, hello! It's nice to meet you directly.

So uh, we're Legion. Unfortunately with the current state of magic in the world most of us are inactive, so don't expect a huge cacophony of voices or anything.

Anyway, can you fill us in on what happened while Hattori was out? When did Anansi show up? Also you should know that Hattori's missing bits are in a cold, wet, viscous substance. Is there a swamp southeast of here?

Well, there's several locations that Anansi suggested. Uhm.
There's an alchemy lab in the underside of the city.
There's a large cave system south of here.
And, ah, uhm. Jerasp mentioned a shrine to Coyote in passing, I don't know where that is.

I wander into the market district and find Jerasp, in his human form, having a heated argument with a shopkeeper.

"And I still say it's worth a platinum at the least! Are you insinuating I am an idiot, my good man? I'm being kind here! Such a work of fine art normally sells for diamonds! Pearls! All I need from you is a single coin to part with it."
"But sir, ah, diamonds and pearls are worth less than platinum."
"Are they? What the hell kind of economy is this?!"
Should I wait until they finish, the store burns down, or should I interrupt?

If that's Hattori, it's before he became a lich. No stitching, see? This thing is pretty damn old. However, I don't think you should let Jerasp sell it to the merchant. Hattori would probably prefer elements of his past to be in the hands of those he trusts, if not his own hands.

Something tells me that requires magic. Ella, suggest that JERASP grasp a BOULDER and try to destroy the entrance to his cave, it would cut off the flow of troops, and it might starve them or something, as well as keeping them from selling his precious GOLD.

"P-p-p-payback! Trik get payback!"

"Now Trik even."

As good as any other. The experiance of a mortal being is to follow the lines of only one path, as a whole. The branches in the path are important, and regular. There is a pattern. And at each fork, there is one... there is He Who Decides. It could be anyone, from a pauper boy of twelve to a king of ninety years, but always, someone Decides. After the war between Coyote and Clown, Clown sealed this last temple and all the Cane in a bubble, and placed that bubble in his lands. He did not intrude, for that would have been breaking the laws of the Gods that he helped to create, but instead... he tempted them. That's what he SAID, but the legs led us right to him. Straight to the only sane Cane left? They can't be entirely under Clown's control. Remember we spied on the Fangsworn in that army before... They didn't trust the Clownsworn. If this situation was all Clown's doing, they would have had no objections! Besides, Coyote has tried this exact same plan before, when Clown was not part of the picture. He is not acting any differently, so it's as if Clown really isn't corrupting him.

We will continue with our original plan. The Church of Raven must be restored, regardless of whether or not Coyote is somehow 'corrupted' by Clown. Also, in order to fully kill Coyote, we will eventually have to return to Salzane and slay him.

...you know what? Checking for an ambush is one of the established correct uses of the watch. Use it. If someone is watching you, waiting for you to go down and get her clothes, then there should be a time of death in the near future.

Also... Let's talk to Anansi before we leave. We thought of another plan of action that should work, but we should run it by him before committing to it.

The raven queen smiles and takes away the hat.
"You hurt someone very, very close to me today. You insulted him, as well. made a fool of him. I will not tolerate anyone mocking Anansi so, especially a mortal. Therefore..." she pauses, then grins. "Incarnate, dear, a word?"

There's a flash of light, and Raven disappears, only to return a few seconds later.
"Therefore, you will be punished according to your crimes. Have a nice day, bitch."

"Wha-"

There's a haze of pink smoke, and suddenly in Shi's place stands a young girl, no more than ten years old, in barely-fitting leather banded armor.
"What the hell?!" she screams, looking down at herself. "What did you do to me?!"
"You charms will never work again." Raven states simply. "And you don't have the talent to use the... new tools I've given you."

The legend goes that he chased a small force of Mongrels into the ruins of a dead god's shrine. When he emerged, he carried a spear as black as night. The tip flickered with fire that never went out, nor harmed the metal. O-of course, most beleived he spread pitch on the blade, but..."
"But?"
"But that doesn't explain how he turned it into a lance of heat so great he turned his enemies to dust and the land below them to glass when he threw it. And that the fire always went out when it was seperated from him for an hour. His full name was Darian Firecaller, and he was notable mostly for single-handedly defending a gate from three armies of mongrels."

Okay I'm just gonna lay out something here...
There's another option we've been discussing with ourselves: Replace Clown with Coyote.

Basically, they're working together, yet we still need a God of Chaos so we can't kill both of them. If Clown is indeed corrupting Coyote via his minions, causing him to agree to try to eliminate magic from the world, then we'd be better off with Coyote than with Clown.

I'm quite convinced right now that Clown wanted us to meet Salzane. He let him stay (and probably kept him alive) out of all the Canes there because Clown knew that he'd ask for our help... and in a way that would make us lose.

We still need to revert the Raven churches, to stop the killing of magical creatures. We just can't focus on killing the mongrels. Not right now.

Hello, Hattori.

You may be wondering why I have decided to steal something this important from you, especially when you need everything you can get. Why, you ask, must Shi need this item? Because, my dear, Shi wants revenge. On you. On Raven. On Coyote. I heard about your plans, your ideas. I'm not about to let the world fall into chaos, but, and this is important, you still haven't taken my pride.

And I will. I will find your real mind. I will drag you to it. I will nail you down. And I will take apart your brain until your mind matches the body I've been cursed with. But that's years from now! That's the least of your worries, darling. Right now, you should be worrying about the last of the Spidersworn, and the fact that I've been a day ahead of you this whole time.

Much love,
Shi

As much as I hate to do this, we have to use the hat to teleport. Shi may do or say something to get Ishkal to hate us, and therefore, not help us. We should leave a note to tell the others.

Okay, I think we need to get some serious speed going here. Wake up Jax, and ask him to get you on top of a high place so you can see the source of the smoke. If it's the Ogress's cave then we may have to use the hat to teleport directly there and fend off Shi. Get some junk to put in the hat to make it into a weapon again. Rocks, sticks, anything. Be sure to take out anything in it you want to keep.

Raven's Cunning!

"Shi wants you angry and unfocused. That is why she stole your property and left a note behind, as well as threatened you. She wants you to barrel forth into the home of an ogress we have never met, Clearly intent on murder, weapons drawn. Further, my suspicion is that she will likely attempt to clean up the remaining Mongrels, if only to make the world safe enough to kill you. I would reccomend moving forward with caution, and defending yourself against her should she show hostility. If she merely wants to brag, do not give her the pleasure of a reaction. Let her say her peice and then either watch her leave or force her to. Killing her now is a distraction we do not need."

"And the wa-"

Technically Ella does...

Er, moving on. I'm seconding the whole "Have Jax take us up so we can see the smoke and teleport" We were already told one person tacks on an extra day. And she only has one person.

Hattori, do you believe you could teleport really high up while maintaining your composure? We could skip the whole Jax step if you do.
>>

>>105479
Okay, Jax is right. We should not run blindly in. If we can catch her unawares it is tempting to just take her out right there... but if she IS going to be using the cane to kill mongrels then we could leave her alive and track her down after things calm down a bit.

Do we not desire our crap? Though I guess it's too time consuming. Ugh. I still say we should teleport directly there, since shi can't do that.... Unless she borrowed our hat to... oh no.

We need to reach there immediately. We may already be too late.
>>
No. 105485 ID: 34470e

>>105479
She won't get the reaction she wants. Here's what I think we should do:
1: Get the cane away from her by using the hat
2: getting both cufflinks away from her, though I don't know how to do that exactly.
3: Anchor one of her arms so she can't run away
4: We tease her, rile her up, and devastate her pride.

We can use an eye to surveillance her before all this, but only if she doesn't see us first. Then we adjust this plan as the situation fits.
>>
No. 105486 ID: 632862

>>105483
We still have the hat. I think if we teleported there alone Shi would have the upper hand. That cane is incredibly powerful, and she has the cufflinks to give her an extra edge on top of that. All we have is the hat, gloves, and watch. The gloves are amazing but it only makes magical items work while in the presence of Seerans. We would have to make absolutely sure that Shi doesn't ambush us after we teleport there. The hat won't help if she gets the jump on us.
>>
No. 105532 ID: a64482

I wonder if Hattori can make it so we can talk to her and Shi can't stop us, we could then A: make her think she's going insane, B. possibly eavesdrop on her thoughts C: tell her all the horrible things Hattori could do to her (We'll make it seem like he's the psychopath that thought them up, I mean, he's a medical genius. He cold paralyze her, flay all the nerves related to pain out in the open turn her into a lich and leave her in the blazing sun for the buzzards, or he could probably make a good deal of money from paralyzing all but certain parts of her anatomy, and selling her to a brothel. I'm sure someone will pay a pretty penny for a mute loli that can't wander off, will never age and doesn't require feeding, but still has functional orifices) We could even do something like, say... "You know Shi, it's funny. You almost got away. When we first met you, Hattori's glee at the prospect of slicing up your vocal chords to see how they worked was electric, but once the little mouse bitch got involved, she was a more interesting specimen. Oh the fun we'll have, now that it won't be detached curiosity behind the scalpel, it'll be the need for revenge."

Of course, I have no idea if it's even possible, or if we work that way.

We don't have to hat-a-port in alone, we can use the hat to send other people whole - not just their heads. IIRC, it's actually less taxing to do it that way.

If we haven't already, we should also refill the hat with boulders and crap before rushing headlong into a confrontation.

Teleportation by hat-tipping ends any momentum and does not add any. A small teleportation could save you from a nasty fall.

We move onwards towards Ishkal's hut. It's in sight, and not burning. It seems she has the stove going.

Currently loaded inside hat: at least thirty small stones, several pounds of sticks, and a couple of knives.

In cape: Five long knives, and the cane she gave me. The money has since been deposited in a secure location.

On my person: One long knife, my suit, and the monocle.

I do not see Shi anywhere. She is not in hiding.
