My name? Moira, if you please. I fear I can't offer a family name, though. I have practically no memories beyond a certain point of time, and, oh yeah, since then I heard voices nobody else could hear.

How I got here? I was a passenger on a ship, the
Libretto. Payed all my money for the trip from the Old World to Port Royal. Wanted to... start anew, right, and what better place is there to go than the New World?

Yesterday morning, we were caught in a storm. Most of the day it looked like we could make it, but around evenening, the bilge was halfway full of water and raising, despite our best efforts to pump it out. Then the main mast collapsed, the ship got really wonky and I was trapped alone on the quarterdeck. Lucky as I was, somebody had already tried to prepare the row boat for launching, so I got in and rowed like my life depended on it, which was kinda the case. Eh, you know what I mean.

I don't know how many others made it out alive.

"I don't have a mask on!" I mean, well, maybe that's just how my skull is formed. Sorry if you expected to find a neeenngiiaa, whatever that is.

So, since the storm I'm assuming you've not seen hide nor hair of any other vessels. How many days out from port were you? Also, if you're intent is to make some sort of living out on the seas, you're out of luck, as firstly you're female, and secondly you can't curse worth a damn. Starting anew is all fine and dandy, but you need to resolve yourself to find a more suitable profession.

Neither hide nor hair, so true. There's nothing but water around.

Uh, well, how many days out of port? I'm not exactly sure... Uhm, we started in Amsterdam, we were traveling for several weeks... I'm definatly already in the Caribean Sea.

A more suitable profession? Awwww, you're sure?
I never learned a real profession, nobody ever wanted to take me as an apprentice, so I always had to make a living that way or this way...

Eh, I can run very fast! And I can swim very well, too. And I love the sea! I never get seasick, disregarding how bad the weather may be. And maybe I'll learn how to curse properly over time...

There appears to be a small island behind you. Do a full 360 degress sweep of the horizon and you should spot it.

And you can indeed succed as a female pirate. You just have to be a bit better at it than everyone else. And the swearing will start. Just remember to end or start every sentance with Fuck or something similar. That should have you cursing like a seaman in no time at all.

From the way the boat is currently facing, the island is approximately 45 degrees to the right... assuming you know basic geometry and angles. Anyway, it is indeed possible for you to be a female pirate, but if anything you'll have to be tougher and meaner then all the male pirates in order to avoid being buggered.

The island does not seem to be uninhabited, indeed. There’s a wooden footbridge there. I think that’s a good spot to debark.

Hmmm, they might object to your landing. Do you have any weapons other than the oars?

And your swearing still needs a bit of work. You need to make it approriate to the situation. So instead of "Fuck! An island!" it should be more like "Fucking hells yeah! An island!", because finding an island and being rescued are good things and then you need positive reinforcers for your swears.

And it's ok to think without swearing. Just remember that if you can swear good enough to make a hardened pirate blush then you're close to the mark. And keep it down a bit when dealing with non pirates, for some odd reason people seem to think it's uncultured to use the full extent of the availible language.

Not in my case. Did I forget to mention I can only hear the voices when I’m close to the sea? In the boat I could hear you as if you were sitting right next to me. Now you’re not as loud, but as long as I have eye-contact to the sea there are never any problems.
The greater the distance between a shore and me, the fuzzier the voices get.

>>128839
I don’t see anybody.

I don’t have any weapons with me, and I don’t think any blows I could perform with the oars would be very harmful right now. My arms are like jelly. Jelly of pain, that is!

Still, I could carry one of the oars with me, if you insist.

So, swearing is a situational option, yes? I think I can work with that.

Well, there’s not much to see here. The footbridge is old and overgrown. To be honest, I feel like some sleep is in order. And somthing to fill the stomach with.

Well there are signs of people and the stuff still seems decently maintained. So there should be some people around there somewhere. Let's go exploring before we eat strange fruit, and keep a look out for any fresh water, just don't drink to much if you find any.

Oars might not work if you can't wield them properly, you will just have to rely on kicks then. I'm guessing you're not familair with Savate, but you should still be able to deliver a decent kick if you can run fast.

Anyway, you need a story clear for if you find someone. The truth about your ship works just fine, the truth about why you were on it is not as good though. So just say that you went to the new world to find a better life. And don't reveal that you're a woman unless they ask why you're dressed as a man, in which case it's to avoid being raped in case of pirate attacks. That should cover most of your bases.

Sounds like we're spirits of the ocean, or the ghosts of sailors lost at sea.

Do you have a heavy blade of some sort? A Machete or other kind of chopping sword? You could cut open one of those coconuts.

Quite interesting that you can't hear us when you can't see the water, or are far away from it.

Possibly scout the rim of the island, and avoid going deep in unless you have to, or at least only deep enough that you figure out what the limit is.

I’ll be careful not to eat or drink anything without second thoughts.

Savate? It sounds French, though I never heard it during my time in Normandy. Probably something from Guyenne, Bourbonnais or even Papal Avignon, am I right?

Well, I just think men’s clothes are much more practical. Ever tried to run away with a hooped skirt? Neither easy nor pretty, trust me. Eh, but I’ll keep your advice in mind in case somebody asks me questions.

>>128883
Yes, I always thought you must be something like that. When I was younger, the thought scared me. But everything is relative. Compared with some undead I met, hearing ocean spirits just isn’t as frightening anymore.

Machete? When I fled from the
Libretto, all I had were the things I carried on my body. Which are, apparently, my clothes, my purse and some sewing needles. Coconuts sound fine, though.

Okay, going to look around a bit.

The limit for hearing you? Oh, the maximum is some hundred cubits. When I go too far, the voices begin to sound more like the rolling of the waves and then they go mute. At least, it was like that when I still lived in Europe. Maybe it’s different in the new world?

Also, I never tried to actively establish a contact with you.

Savate is a french form of unarmed combat focused on kicking. It's mainly practised by french sailors. It's kinda handy if your arms are tired from rowing alot.

Anyway. Continue exploring. Try to find someone or the place where whoever built the footbridge or the lookout tower stayed or stays.

French Sailors? Interesting. Should have asked them about it while I was there. The French duchies were always one of the nicest places to be.

To the tower? Yes, might be a good idea. I try to head into that direction, but it seems going up the hill leads nowhere. It just gets rockier. I better get back to the beach.

Defend? I see no reason why any undead should turn up here. It’s not like they’re just appearing out of nowhere...
The lesser undead are harmless anyway, as long as you leave them alone. They are just standing around until somebody takes a heart and burns them with a torch or something.
If we’re talking about a banshee or a feral vampire... well, let’s say, if they intend to kill you, better say your last prayer REALLY quickly.

Anyway, there surely are no undead on the platform. Should I climb up?

What? But I just got here!

I go upstairs and head for the room of the kobolds. Their door is open.

Their room at the inn looks very much like a table booth.

Ask who the strongest one is, and when the one speaks up punch him in the face. Declare yourself their new King.

Yea-no.
Don't do that, if they have a ship, they almost certainly have alot more people with them, and probably weapons of some type.
Instead, ask if they would mind taking on a passenger.
>>
No. 130098 ID: 8ecfd4

>>130008
Yeah this is a good plan. Hopefully they have a draconic captain that treats them like shit, then we could make them mutiny and get a new ship.

Even Pirates must show some courtesy. If these are going to be your potential crewmates, stay respectful. Knock at the door frame, even with the door wide open. This could be the most privacy they've had since they took off.

Right. I knock three times. The ‘bolds just stare at me.

>>130000
That’s true. Odd.

>>130003
I would take on any ‘bold, but not after I rowed a boat for ten hours. Still, can’t hurt to ask.
Moira: “Hey! Who is the strongest one?”

One of them simply points to the side.

>>130008
Ah, it was but a tiny one-master. I doubt it needs more than half a dozen crewmen.

Moira: “I heard you have a ship. Would you mind taking on a passenger?”

Again, one of them just points to the side. I think we all agree it's safe to take a look, right?

Yeah it's probably safe to check. Just be prepared for a crazed drunken dwarf or something equally odd. Not that crazy drunken dwarfs are that odd, but one who willingly walks around outside and even ventures on the seas would have to be truly epically crazy.

I heard dwarfs don't dig the climate.

Got it? Dwarfs... dig... eh, whatever.

>>132854
Good. There are four tiny beds and another 'bold.

Moira: "Are you the Captain?"
Kobold: "The Mate. What do you want?"
Moira: "Like I said, I want to ask wether you would take a passenger...?"
Kobold:: "Can you pay?"

Damn.

Damn obnoxius ´bold. He will be the first to taste the wrath of the dreaded captain Moira. You know once we get you a ship and stuff.

Explain to him that no it was not meant as an insult. You simply pointed out that you would be willing to work for your trip, you have nautical experience and due to natures injustices you are also stronger than any of said crewmen. Atleast when your arms are rested.

I liked the dwarf joke btw. A good pun is never wrong, and you know it's good when it causes mental cringing.
>>

Okay well that's a tough blow, but... try this, or something along the lines. "Your crew? You're the mate, not the captain, so I think it's not exactly your decision whether or not you take on another pair of hands that can handle all the big stuff."

...I'm no good with ship lingo, so feel free to substitute whatever you think best.

I'll remember him. He's in for some keelhauling.

Moira: "I didn't mean it as an insult."
Mate: "..."
Moira: "It's just a cruel jape of nature that I'm stronger than any of you..."
Mate: "ARRR"

Heh, they're just too cute when they growl.

Moira: "I meant no offense."
Mate: "I don't care what you meant. You'll never get as much as a foot on my planks."

>>132865
Moira: "Your planks? Your crew? I don't think so."
Kobold: "The human's right, Ozy. The skipper has the last call."

That was one of the 'bolds at the table.

Mate: "You better shut up, Nilli."

I leave the room and close the door. The ‘bolds are arguing a bit, it seems.

The Inn is small, there are just three other rooms. The ‘bolds’ room is just to the left, on the right are the stairs.

You could always engage in the primal method of gaining a position... Go back into the room and strangle the ship's mate, then when the skipper arrives you can tell him you're his replacement.

But if you don't want to do that, I'd suggest you go back down to the goblin and ask which room was rented to a captain.

Moira:"Bold captain! I want to boldly join your bold crew. Rest assured I can be bold if a situation demands boldness!"

???:: "... What?"

There' a small silence. Seems like I impressed him.

???:: "You... Wait, come in."

I open the door an enter.

Moira:"Thank you! I..."

Okay now, what is that?

Anyhow, tell em jokes aside, you would very much like to be joinen his crew because the sea calls to you, and you must answer.

Looks like an elf. Or an elf. Damn english language with only one word for elf. I would say it's an Alv, but I don't have any proper translation.

Anyway, convince him the sea is in your blood and sailing is what you're meant for. Magellan don't have shit on you when it comes to sailing. Except for that whole part about going through one of the most dangerous waters there is in a very primitive ship without actually knowing the way. But you're going to be even more awesome.
