Hmm… we seem to have a magic staff locked down, and it’d be hard to learn how to do magic from the witch without one. I think we take a detour for our fetch quest~ Hmm… where to go to get an axe though… entering the town seems out of the question, but perhaps we could check the outskirts of the woods near the village? Woodsmen usually go to the woods to get their woods, after all. Perhaps we will be a lucky kobold and happen across an axe left unattended?

How could someone who touches frogs as a career be unkind? Commune with the witchies, ask for help to not fall asleep if you get poked while bringing iron to the great moss creature.

Maybe one day your wizard magic will let you ascend to such a magnificent form.
>>

guess you could head towards the human or gnoll villages to grab iron thing.

As a MIGHTY WIZARD, we are also very Sneaky, a MIGHTY WIZARD trait that we decided just now. Head towards the forest edge closest to the human town and find some humans that cut trees and sneak in to grab a Metal-tipped stick thingie object.
>>

Of course the witch is unfriendly, thats why she lives in a swamp. Which is why Grem needs a magic stick, to show he is serious about learning so she will know not to be unfriendly to him.

Go spy on the humans, they must leave their iron things somewhere when they aren't using them.

The witch is mean? Oh no, she won't want to teach us then. Ask where else you can find a teacher. One of the humans maybe?

Frend.

Grem should help get sharpmetal stick and reward of magicstaff.

The witch be respecting grem as serious.
Can maybe get a moss beard too.

If Grem is to show witch Grem is friend and very serious about being best wizard, Grem need stick to show Grem is friend with woodsie creature. So Grem better go find metal claw tool and bring it back to moss friend!

Grem bid farewell to Kobblav and leave big scary forest, taking the path near the river that goes toward scary humans instead. Grem sings funny song as they prance away towards new adventure!

Still, Grem needs to find an orb to ponder and a big hat to wear to be proper wizard… Grem not know where though…

About halfway to human den Grem smell something good. Being sneaky Grem sneak through bushes and grass towards the smell and find… a small campfire right next to the lake.

There is three smoked fishies hanging from a wooden thing… and the fire is nothing but embers. Did someone leave fishies here for Grem to eat?

Grem still hungry after all, even after eating moss.

Grem’s pocket:
-Stone Friend.
-Moss.
-More Moss.

Yes, yes. Wizards are mysterious and wise. They give wise and mysterious gifts and advice in exchange for things. Look for the magic weed that makes you feel weird, that would make for a good mysterious gift.

Taking fish could make person who fished fish angry. Practice your pondering and ponder the rock. Perhaps you can ponder where fisher went.

Perhaps the fisher is in trouble!

>Partaketh not of the fish! 'Twould taint thine mossy temple.
While Grem’s temple of moss is glorious, Grem need flesh or else Grem not grow big. That what Elder bold say. Also, one time Grem ate only moss for a full moon and Grem tummy hurt. Fish smell good, therefore Grem eat fishies.

>A good wizard doesn't take without doing something in return.
But what can Grem do? Trade for moss maybe? Grem not give them rock frend, rock frend Grem’s frend.

>Practice your pondering and ponder stone frend. They nearly round and round is orb.
Thou looketh upon thyne stone frend… and thyne stonest frende looketh backeth with a smile. Sadly, rock frend is neither round nor were good at being pondered at. Grem need proper orb, orb that is shiny and show reflection of Grem.
>If we rub and polish stone friend until he is nice and round he will be orb. We should rub him every night.
That will take many moons. Grem want to be wizard now, not then! No, rock frend not orb.

>look towards the water, is the fishermen still out there?
At first the water is completely still… then suddenly something big emerges from it, making a great splash against the rocks nearby! It’s a merman!?

Merman: “Oh Momma, sometimes I’m just so handsome that I scare myself!”

The merman drags some kind of shell across his head fin before striking a pose, flexing his muscles as if he knew he had an audience.

It isn’t until the merman flops up towards the fire that he notices Grem.

Merman: “Whoa there, little dude, there’s a little guy here!” he exclaims as he strikes another pose, “You didn’t touch my food, did you baby?”
GREM: ”Grem not lick fishes when Merman not looking, no.”
Merman: “That’s good, little guy! Daddy needs his protein for these bad boys!” the merman flexes, “Aw yeah!”
GREM: ”You are very big, yes.”
Merman: “Check out these pecks!” putting his arm in a circle over his tummy, he somehow manages to make his chest dance, “Oh! Ha! Yeah!”

But Grem eyes is drawn somewhere else. Right there, hanging from his neck, is a perfectly round orb… an orb so shiny that Grem can see Grem in it… and that Grem whispers… “Ponder me, Grem… Ponder me like one of your mossy kobolds~”

Merman: “Sorry little guy, have no time to chat! Got a date tonight!” the merman’s voice rips Grem away from his daydream, screaming and kicking, “Well, she said for me to get lost, but I’ll win her over, you’ll see.” and once again he flexes, “After all, who can say no to these things, right?”
GREM: ”Um… yeah?”
Merman: “Now run along, little lizard, I got protein to eat and a gal to impress!”

Oh, of course! The reason he's so powerful must be because he is made of fish, and eating fish is just adding more fish to him. Since Grem is (unfortunately) made of lizard, he must eat lizard to become powerful. (Until he embraces his true calling as a being of moss.) Thank the muscular merman for his wisdom, and seek lizards to empower yourself with.

Fishman has orb.
Fishman very proud.

Stare at his orb.
Tell him how shiney and pretty it is.
If he talks to you, be distracted by orb.
Tell him lucky lady will want to stare at orb too. See herself in it.
Might not even look at his big arms and muscley fin.

Compliment this strange merman’s orb, and ask where he got it~ Possibly mention you have your own girl to impress. (This is technically true! The girl is the witch! Imagine how serious you’ll look if you go to her to learn magic with a staff AND an orb!) Despite this merman’s vanity, he seems to be of a good nature, and might be willing to help!

>Since Grem is (unfortunately) made of lizard, he must eat lizard to become powerful.
Grem remembers kobold that ate other kobolds. Other kobolds threw rocks at them until they stopped moving and then threw them in swamp. Elder say eating kobold is very, very bad. Grem not eat other kobold.

>Ask where he got his orb.
Merman: “From the sea, of course!” he flexes as he points in a direction you presume is towards the sea, “Deep from the depths, I tore it from a feral, vicious clam, little pal! Oh momma, it was a real beast that clam!”
GREM: “Oh…” Grem have no idea what clam is but it sounds dangerous, “It is very shiny… and pretty… Grem is sure lady would love to see herself in it… maybe she won’t even look at your big arms and muscley fin?”
Merman: “Ah, sadly, she wasn’t impressed by the pearl, tiny lizard.” he deflates slightly, “They are rather common where I live, after all.”
GREM: “Then you can give Grem orb?” Grem hold out a handful of moss, “Grem even trade moss for it!”
Merman: “Huh? Moss? why would I want moss?”
GREM: “Grem not give you rock frend because rock frend is frend, so all Grem has left is moss.”
Merman: “Well, I don’t want any moss or rocks, my little… um…” he lean his head to the side, “Wait, are you a boy or a girl?”
GREM: “Grem is Grem!”
Merman: “No, I mean… what is in your pants?”
GREM: “Grem is in Grem’s pants!”
Merman: “Never mind.” he sigh, “Either way, how about this. You find me something awesome that will impress that gal, and I’ll trade you the pearl for it, deal?” The merman starts striking poses once more, “Something. HA! That. OH! Will. YEAH! Show. Huff! Off. Ah! These. Ngg! Badboys!” Grem hears him whisper something like ‘damn I’m handsome’ to himself under his breath.
GREM: “…can Grem have some fish too?”
Merman: “No.”
GREM: “Aw…”

No Grem! Not kobold! The merman doesn't eat other merfolk, he eats simple fish. Grem would eat simple lizard.

You have been denied fish because the merman knows fish will not let you reach the peaks he has. He knows you aren't made of fish. You must find simple lizards to become strong like him, then you will have the strength to lift metal tools.

Also, the moniker of dude is not exclusive to those with or without occupied pants. The merman should know that if Grem is someone willing to mutually respect him, then Grem must be accepted as a dude. It is the way of the coastal folk to be welcoming, and Grem has done nothing to revoke his welcome.
>>

>>1113053
One final word of wisdom. There are three ways for a dude to display the physical perfection of their arm musculature: They may assert their will over an object of formidable mass and briefly remove it from the shelter of the ground, they may adorn their muscles with ink beneath the skin (or alternatives) in patterns that ripple as they flex.

And lastly, they may disguise their majesty under a modest garment. When the one they wish to woo is fooled by the false safety of a concealed body, a single flex will expose their mistake and the dude's awesome physique.

Go, Grem! Find a garment a maiden would find pleasing to see her partner wear over their torso.

If you can find charcoal or soot from the fire, you could make his muscle definition even greater? Like make up with girls, it just draws attention to certain parts. Not water proof though.

Also, can hear this merman's voice so clearly in my head, I can hear the mic compression.

>Grem would eat simple lizard.
The only lizard Grem knows is not simple kobolds and snek. But elder say not play with snek as snek make kobold stop moving if bit.
>Inspect sea.
Grem not know where sea is. Also, sea is big… maybe even bigger than den!

>Ask where you can find some food.
Merman: “Need some more protein for the gains, my man?” he turns around and flexes, showing off his back muscles, “Can’t say what’s on the surface, little dude, but there is plenty of fish in the lake, as well as a lot of plants, snails and other goodies at the bottom of it.”
GREM: “Can fish man teach Grem to catch fishies?”
Merman: “…can you swim?”
GREM: “Grem like rock. Sink to bottom. Water super scary.”
Merman: “Then no, sorry.”
>Maybe you should ask for tips on how to get strong, instead of assuming.
Merman: “Wanna be strong, little fellow? Why, start lifting some heavy weights!” the merman picks up a big, heavy rock as if it was made of moss, “Lift it a few times, take a break and then lift it a few times more! Just make sure you take a day off ever so often to make sure your muscles got time to grow, little lizard.”

>TRADE!
GREM: “Maybe Grem can invite merman to den?” you tell him, “Grem’s second cousin will be there!” Grem not good at lying, but Grem needs pearl to be wizard, “Grem cousin very into big men with muscles!”
Merman: “Sorry, little lizard, I don’t date… um… little lizards.” he stops for a moment before adding, “No offence, I’m just into the big, underwater ladies.”

GREM: “Grem can make crown of flowers! Water lady never seen crown of flowers before!”
Merman: “Hmm, I don’t know about a crown, but something like flowers would work.” the merman rubs his chin, “It needs to be able to withstand being underwater though, so most flowers won’t work… but if you find anything pretty a lady would like I’m willing to trade.”

GREM: “OH! Maybe Grem make some bracers with feathers on them! Or a vest of moss! That would bring Merman muscles out!”
Merman: “…can you even make that?”
GREM: “Grem not know but Grem try!”
Merman: “Right…” he rubs the back of his head, “I mean, I can take a look at it, I guess?”

GREM: “How about cheese and wine?”
Merman: “I don’t know what this cheese thing is, but wine would work! Do you have any?”
GREM: “No.”
Merman: “…then come back when you find some?”

Grem now have many options. Grem just need to either find something pretty, some wine or something for big merman to wear! Then Grem get orb to ponder!

After saying goodbye to big merman, Grem continue their journey towards human town, but here Grem get even more options! Grem can either look in the woods near the village to find woodcutters, but Elder has warned Grem that there are many traps in there.
Or Grem can go to outskirts of the village! Humans leave many neat things there, including tools! Just be careful so they don’t see Grem or Grem in trouble!
Finally, Grem can go down to lake near village. There are many barrels and boxes down there, maybe there are fishies or tools there too? Most humans either in town or out on lake fishing at this time of day, so floating platforms of wood should be safe. Maybe?

Grem need to decide…
