Whoa! Hello there! You scared the crap out of me!

So you probably noticed that June Quest hasn't updated in years, an-

Oh, you didn't notice? That's OK. I've forgotten about it myself as well.

So here's the thing: I gave it a lot of thought, and I just don't have it in me anymore to update this quest. It's a lost cause, and there are several reasons for it, which I will elaborate on soon. But I am not going to let this just fade into the ether, I want to let you loyal few know how this was going to spin out and tie up all the dangling plot threads! Granted, a lot of this would depend on how you responded to the actions and reactions as is wont of a quest, but these will cover the major plot beats, character stories, and other cool things I wanted to include but never got around to adding in.

So! To wit, the main three reasons for stopping June Quest are:
-Plot elements that didn't hold up or just kinda petered out/fell apart
-The software I used to make the background that became inaccessible
-Ideas that became obsolete or didn't stand the test of time

Going over the second one first: the software I used to make the 3D backgrounds, SketchUp (which then became Google SketchUp and then back to SketchUp again) dropped their free version. Or deliberately hid it or obfuscated it so they could push their paid subscription model. And as much as I like you guys, I ain't spending $120 a year on this software. Why not use Blender, I hear some of you say? Well, Blender is viable but the learning curve is many magnitudes higher with Blender than it is with SketchUp, and that would take a significant time investment that just wouldn't be as efficient when making backgrounds.

The other two reasons I will talk about more as I reveal in the next update: The Character Backstories!

No worries! Sorry that software company had you on the ropes. I enjoyed Dead Space Booba in Minecraft whether it gets finished or not.

I really hate subscription-based software. They make you spend hundreds of dollars even when you just want to keep your obsolete version for a fixed, if expensive, price. They jack the prices to the point that only large businesses can buy it rationally.

Lieutenant Eric Taylor's Backstory

The big bullet points for Lt. Taylor are:

-Grew up under single father
-Enlisted in the UTR Marines
-First saw action when a vital Dwarven mining colony was attacked by Vidder insurgents (yes, those Vidder, I had asked Brom for permission to use them). This would lead into how there are disputed worlds in the UTR that may have been formally and politically ceded, but the locals did not care for it and took action.
-Taylor would meet Jacobe as his unit would join a task force for rooting out the insurgency
-Taylor's CO was the son of a major military contractor who got his rank via nepotism, and was also very racist towards Vidder
-The overall mission was a success, until Taylor's CO demanded he clear a local residental area
-The area would be full of civilians that had no part in the conflict, but the CO would demand their execution anyways
-Taylor, having a strong moral center, would refuse orders
-The CO would get enraged and try to force Taylor at gunpoint to kill the civilians
-Taylor would end up shooting his CO in the head, but not before the CO would blow off Taylor's right arm
-Taylor was set to be summarily executed if Jacobe had not recorded the whole incident
-In the end, Taylor and Jacobe would be dishonorably discharged and the incident would be swept under the rug
-Taylor would go nearly broke getting the cheapest cybernetic prosthetic so he could join a PMC and resume his military career outside the Marines
-He would eventually join Jacobe in a mission to run security for a small Gregorian-class science vessel called the UTR June

The rest, they say, is history.

Up next: Lt. Cmdr. Jacobe!

I feel like it would be easier to sweep the incident under the rug with a regular discharge (or even honorable as bribe to keep their mouths shut about it).
Dishonorably discharging them (especially Jacobe) sounds actually petty rather than practical. (not to mention highly dishonorable in itself)

Taylor and Jacobe got the Big Green Weenie from their superiors. I wanted to show that even in the future, the armed forces can still be dicks, especially if it's motivated by the MIC.

Anyways! Decided to merge three characters into one update in order to be more efficient! Here we go! Wall of text ahoy!

Lieutenant Commander Robert Jacobe's backstory bullet points

-Son of military kid, aspired to be a soldier for the United Terran Republic, got his wish after high school.
-Skilled with firearms as a result of extra training with his dad
-Married Rose, his high school sweetheart (was going to ask LonelyWorld if I could use Rose from Pinkskin Quest, but forgot)
-Served a tour with Taylor, similar service history right until Taylor's incident with his superior officer
-After being discharged, a friend recommended him to the PMC he would join later (that we would discover has notoriously low standards and is shoddy as hell)

Dr. Elena Treeriver's backstory bullet points

-Daughter of prominent Elven governmental figure
-Father would constantly pressure her to join politics
-Elena showed aptitude in organic chemistry, ecological and planetary sciences instead and longed to purse a career in those fields
-Tensions would build year after year between Elena and her family
-Graduated from a prominent Elven university with honors
-Tensions would explode after father would attempt to arrange a marriage between Elena and some dickhead, IDK
-Elena would break off relations and pursue her own interests, resulting in a minor political scandal for her father
-She would find her way to the UTR June and signed up for the expedition

We would also learn that Elena is actually around 78 years old; young by Elven standards but old by humans.

Private Second Class Devin Stonehelm's backstory bullet points

-Born around 150 years ago, belongs to a small Dwarven enclave with little influence
-Devin would start off piloting cargo ships to ferry ore between UTR planets, since Dwarves are prominent space miners
-Gained notoriety when he threaded the needle of his bulky cargo ship between asteroids in a race between himself and a rival
-Rose to prominence as an ace pilot and helmsman
-Lost all fame and fortune when he became overconfident and crashed a cruiser into a gravity tether on a mining ship (think the USG Ishimura) after a night of binge drinking
-After spending a decade in prison, would resume piloting for odd jobs
-Eventually became a lead helmsman for the UTR June

I was also hoping to use Devin and Elena as a way to reveal more about Terra's past, which is essentially a "what if a fantasy setting evolved into the sci-fi setting." Terra would be dotted with ancient ruins belonging to Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, but those are overshadowed now with skyscrapers, spaceports, enormous orbital material fabricators, etc.

Next time: Cherie!
