Pikachu becomes as depressed as his owner due to his previous experiences. When he is sent into the arena, rather than fight he just tells the other pokemon about all the things he's been through. All the other pokemon lose their will to fight and walk away. He wins the tournament, but he doesn't care about the trophy. On the way out, he meets another, younger pikachu, who reminds him of what he was like when he was young. He leaves. In the last few panels we see the cycle repeating, with Pikachu adopting a human baby and giving him the same treatment his master gave him.

It's an amazing story and a true work of art.
