After Lucy left the house to meet with the Gargill employee we were told was keeping an intact doe, I did my usual routine. Eat, groom, work on my tunnel. The streets were empty because of the rain and after the hard work of digging I took some vegetables from the fridge as a treat.

I know I’m not supposed to go in the kitchen, but ever since Lucy got a job at the library she’s been too busy to keep track of the produce before things spoil. I don’t like seeing the rodents she keeps in there so I don’t open the freezer compartment. Simple. We haven’t gotten a chance to talk about it, but I’m sure she won’t be mad.

She…really likes me. She likes me enough that she doesn’t eat rabbits anymore and she’s willing to risk herself to help the rebellion. Sometimes I’m not sure whether she’s delusional or genuine. Well, it’s pretty clear she’s genuine at this point but I don’t feel like I’ve done anything to deserve it.

Soon I’m full, clean, and bored enough to start worrying. I can tell time from the alarm clock in the bedroom, and as the hours stretch on I wonder how long a simple scouting mission should really take.

I wait on top of the couch by the big living room windows for a glimpse of her umbrella and methodical, long-legged walk. The gray sky darkens and eventually night falls, with no sign of the snake.

Something’s very wrong. Lucy hates any weather cooler than sweltering and she isn’t the type to stay out late with a stranger, even if it’s to get close with them.

Did that stalker Gustave find out what she was doing? Has our cover been blown? If they’ve caught Lucy, will they come for me next?

I hope my cagemates didn’t attack her again. I tried to make it very clear to them that Lucy is kind and wasn’t keeping me prisoner, but they hate reptiles so much it might not matter.

A. Sleep on the bed and search for her in the morning
B. Go to the rebel base tonight
C. Other (suggest)

B Lucy is a lost cause. It's time to move on asap

but also stealthily. If she was captured, her stalker will probably start spying on you in order to find the secret rebel base. Dig tunnels, go through bushes and small holes.

Whats the weather?
They dont like the rain.
Well, i guess no one does.
Except the crocs.
Shit.
The condition that would stop you running into most reptiles increases the chances of the one you really dont wanna see.

Maybe... maybe something has happened.
Perhaps your cagemates have heard something?
No... too far.

Yes.
The smaller snake with the nice hands.
We shall call her spanky.

>Go to Violet the spanking snake
>Bring something of Lucy’s to communicate without speaking
That could work, except I don’t know where Violet lives since I’ve never visited her house. I’ll approach the viper the next time I see her.

>B, stay at the base
I can find out if any of my cagemates saw Lucy and I’ll be safe from any reptiles who come snooping around the house. The only downside is if Lucy comes home and can’t find me and panics, but I trust her to understand my logic.

I can’t lock the house behind me, but I make a mental note of how everything looks so that I can tell if someone searches the place. It’s damp, but not actively raining. Under the cover of Lucy’s bushes, I put on the woven leaf cloak my brothers made for me and head through the neighborhood into the forest.

I check periodically to make sure I’m not being followed and then duck into one of the entrances to the burrow, under a fallen palm tree. I can smell my comrades, and I call out to announce myself.

“Hullo! It’s Rudger coming in from the south tunnel–I have a lot to tell you guys.”

I use my whiskers to navigate as I run on all fours to the main chamber, where Clear Sky and Fresh Grass are working through a new collection of scrap.

“Where’s Sweet Root?” I ask.

“Sleeping. Did you finally tell that snake to leave you alone?” Fresh Grass grunts.

“No, well, kind of…I talked to her and she wants to help us find a mate before I leave. She really, genuinely wants to help.”

The bucks look at each other skeptically. “Sweet Root says he saw her by the factory earlier. Are you sure she didn’t go there to snitch?”

“Yes, I’m completely sure. We got a tip that there was a reptile keeping two women captive and she went to scout the property. Did Root follow her? I’m here because she never came home.”

“You’ll have to ask him.” Grass examines a dirty tin can and sets to work cutting pieces out of the metal.

>A, socialize
“I’ll wait, don’t want to put him in a bad mood by waking him up.” I settle myself next to the scrap and crane my neck to see what Sky is working on. “Anything good?”

“This can’s the best thing we found, got some nails we can make into caltrops and glass bottles that we can break to make shards.” Sky sighs. “You said the snake has good quality knives, if she’s gone you should bring them here.”

“I don’t know what’s happened to her yet, I’m not going to steal from her.”

“This again!” Grass snorts. “You can’t treat reptiles with normal standards of morality because they don’t do the same for us. Even if this snake is barely decent for a carnivore, she still supports the factory implicitly.”

The criticism makes a mix of guilt and anger boil in my stomach. I’ve told them everything about Lucy except for the intimate parts of our relationship, and I don’t know whether I feel especially defensive because she’s my lover. Maybe no matter how good she seems, a reptile can never be fully trusted.

>Layout of the area
I ask questions to get a mental map of the town and the surrounding forest. The best forage is in the grassy field along the road where we escaped, but they add that there’s an armed chameleon working for Gargill who’s been stalking them, although I’ve never seen this fellow myself.

My eyelids grow heavy and I move to the sleeping chamber, which is lined with dry grass and ferns. I curl up next to Root, who mumbles in his sleep and turns over.

>Her
Impossible heights of smooth green scales and two voluptuous, tender mounds. Lucy’s kind smile, her slick tongue and greedy slit. I have a nonsensical dream where Lucy changes sizes, going from hundreds of times larger than me to the size of a doe who’s overwhelmed with desire as my brothers breed her.

I comfort this little Lucy as I take my turn filling her belly. She moans with pleasure, with a mouth free of sharp fangs and deadly poison. I kiss her.

I wake up and stagger into the tunnel to jerk off. With my head clearer, I return to bed.

>The escape
I feel a great sense of deja vu as I find myself in a cramped, dark cage. The cheap welded wire rattles and shakes as the truck drives over potholes and slogs through mud.

We’re stacked between other cages in an unsteady column. Every so often someone above us relieves themselves and we’re splashed with foul urine. The reptiles who loaded us removed our usual waste pans to conserve space during travel.

We have to get out now–this is our only chance.

Sky has a twig carefully chewed into an imitation of the silver key the guards use to open our cage. He pokes it through the mesh and attempts to fit it into the lock. I’m squashed on the rightmost side by Grass and can’t get a good view.

The truck lurches hard and we’re thrown through the suddenly open cage door. We tumble to the wood slatted floor as another cage at the top of the pile slides free and crashes down beside us.

My ankle throbs and I feel woozy from the fall. The truck comes to a stop and we hear the driver curse, no doubt furious that he’s been delayed.

He’s coming to check on the cages. He’s coming. He’s going to open the rear door and we can slip through!

As I try to run to the gap of dim light, the ground turns to jelly and I can’t make any progress forward. Grass, Sky, and Root escape without noticing my struggles and I’m left facing the dark shape of the driver.

He seizes me by the leg with razor claws and he has the face of a scarred wolf and he squeezes hard until my bones pop and I wake with a start.

>The next morning…
>Weather check (warm or wet): Warm
I wake Grass with my thrashing and he yawns and shoves me away with a strong foot. I get up to search for Root and smell him at the entrance to the west tunnel, in the direction of the grassy field.

The sun is out and steaming the moist soil. I stretch my back with a luxurious pop before joining Root at the edge of the forest, close enough to cover to feel safe but in range of good feed. He’s always had a good appetite and has even put on weight since captivity.

“Sky told me you wanted to know about the snake.” He mumbles, once he finishes chewing. “I saw her walking around the neighborhood by the factory, she noticed me but didn’t stop–probably scared I’d do a Grass and stab her. Followed her around for a bit. She went into a house with another big snake guy and pretty soon after I heard them shouting. Didn’t stick around after that.”

Interesting. Why exactly does Gargill transport rabbits out of town in the dead of night using Canine drivers? I'm sure it's only a coincidence that he's hired a member of the species the reptiles are currently at war with. What was that he accused Lucy of? A conspiracy against reptile kind?

Profiteering against your own community is incredibly fucking gross. This is only speculation, though. And not something Rudger would think about in-character.

Hug your big not-stabby brother.
>>
No. 1119811 ID: fd169b

That sounds bad. ask what kind of neighborhood it is. Crowded? hard to sneak around?
You might try to investigate tonight for clues as to what happened.
>>
No. 1119812 ID: 92f7e7

Are you actually going by "Rudger" with your brothers? Surely you had a name before the one the reptile gave you. It can't be scoring you points with your brothers to have abandoned the name they've known you by all this time in favor of the one a snake thought was cute.

In that vein, once your brothers find out that you've been intimate with a snake, what sort of fallout do you expect? Will that turn them on you for certain? Will it make them more trustworthy of the reptile? Will they want a turn?

As for the dream, do you know that Cargill actually employ mammals, in addition to selling them? Is this common knowledge, perhaps some sort of forced labor from war prisoners? Or was this just a figment of your unconscious, and you've never actually met another mammal?

I leap to my feet in alarm. “That sounds bad, Lucy was only supposed to go there for a short visit. We heard there were women being kept prisoner there and she was supposed to gather information, if they argued and she never came back, she could have been attacked by the other snake! We need to go to the house and investigate!”

“We?”

“Yes, we! Our kin are still trapped and Lucy was already injured by Grass, she deserves our help. What kind of neighborhood was it? How easy would it be to go there?”

“It’s this cheap area by the factory…It’s overgrown, which is good for cover, but it seems kind of dangerous to visit unless it’s dark or raining. Don’t think you should be getting too excited, Windy.”

I bristle a little. “Call me Rudger.”

>Why use the name ‘Rudger’?
My first name translates to something like ‘Wind on Fur’ in reptile tongue. It’s fine, I mean, it’s the name my mother gave me even though I didn’t know her for very long. I just prefer Rudger, okay?

>Was the truck driver really a wolf or was that part of the dream?
It was part of the dream. In real life I wasn’t grabbed and killed, I only got the scratch on the leg as the lizard fumbled for me. It’s strange I imagined a canine though, I’ve never even seen one in real life.

>Groom Root
I’m not making a good impression on Root, I can tell by his look of confusion and concern.

“Sorry for snapping.” I say quietly.

“It’s alright Rudger. Since you have that collar you might be able to go out during the day, but it’s not really safe for us.”

I settle next to him and demurely begin to lick his fur as I decide my next move. It’s a sunny day, so the reptiles will be active. This means I might see Violet if I patrol Lucy’s neighborhood.

Root slowly relaxes under my careful grooming.

That's the thing about unending hateful feuds between nations. There are those who are immune to the hate, because they are also immune to love.
